This used to be a tough question. The manga is great (for what it is) and the anime used to be great as well. Each had their own advantages and disadvantages- the anime had all the usual anime advantages of colour, motion, voice, music etc as well as the chance to reconsider how things could be made a little different (as this was the second time the story was being told), while the manga had the traditional manga advantages of greater artistic detail, more structured (but generally faster) pacing and so on. Personally, up until episode 135 I almost always preferred the anime- it was easily the most high-quality show in the shounen mass-market action/adventure genre, with eye-ripping action scenes, highly emotive voice acting and a killer soundtrack while still managing to keep a decent story pace.

Then came the filler and, as we all know, the quality took a nosedive (although some of the Hinata stuff wasn't bad). Frankly, this was to be expected and there was a reason for it (to keep the series from tail-ending the manga) but there were better ways to deal with the problem and they could have done a lot better. But the faithful remained true, keeping their vigil until the time when the hated filler would end and we could resume the real story. The opening of the first episode of the new series filled us with expectation as it skipped ahead to show us the dramatic reuniting of Naruto and Sakura with Sasuke and we held our breath. Then we were most blackheartedly betrayed...

As things stand now, Naruto Shippuuden is an embarrassment. It is barely improved over the filler (in fact, in some regards it's actually much worse), it doesn't even TOUCH the quality of the original series and it frankly shames its source material. The action scenes, once the highlight that made the anime worth watching, are now so drawn out, so sluggishly directed and so poorly animated that you'd rather just reread the manga and use your imagination. The plot has been reduced to a glacial crawl that makes the Chuunin Exam (a epic, multi-sectioned plot arc that ran for over 60 episodes) look like a jaguar on speed, with EVERY LAST SCENE drawn out for five times it's actual length. New material has been added that makes you want to claw your eyes out (the Team Gai vs the clones fight) and there have been pointless changes that have resulted in blatantly stupid mistakes (Chiyo being shocked to hear that Naruto is a jinchuuriki from Kakashi, when she admitted a few episodes earlier that she already knew exactly that).

I'm staking my last hope on the upcoming arc, especially the Naruto vs Orochimaru battle (the best fight in the whole manga so far) and the last episode (33) actually wasn't that bad (omgHINATALUVlolz etc). But as things stand, the anime doesn't hold a candle to the anime and things seem bleak...

I almost agree on everything. But I found the previous series to be lame as well. Though shippuden utterly sucks in many ways, so did the original in the same way. Just not that hard. Both have great moments, but you have to wait far too long to get to 'em, and vitness one embarrasing moment after the other, considering animation, arts, "slow-motion-action" and filler sh*t.

Ep 33 was 1 of those moments. I've never expected the studio to actually come up with good filler stuff. This time they did. You can count good filler moments on 1 hand.
cool biggrin

I know. It was the filler stuff that made it long. Not the original parts. IMO the pace should be at least 3 chapters pr ep. They seems to be stuck on max 1,5 though.

But episode 33 was good as it was. If it were faster, it'll lack quite a bit of the funny moments (NaruHina!! and that whole Shino thingbigrazz) for the future eps, then yeah. 3 chaps should be the average.

i dont kno what is better. the manga has the originally storyline from kishimoto and the anime sometimes adds stuff that was never there. sometimes thats good. i like the manga because u c it the way kishimoto does and the anime is just a way 2 watch some of kishimotos ideas in motion. i think they both rock. and either way im behind on both. T_T

The anime is starting to get better, but I still feel they could make it even more great.

The fact that Kishi had to threaten pulling the rights to the copyright to get them back to the main storyline should really say all that needs to be said. Anything that was filler, especially the later stuff, was total crap.

i starting watching the anime and was hooked straight away. the main aspect that drew me was the detail of the fight scenes. they showed every punch animated every move. no stupid blurs across the screen because they were moving so fast and no repeated punch sequences. the detail was wicked. the chuunin exam arc up until the end of the fight between naruto and gaara was the best. and although he's certainly not my favourite character, any fight with rock lee ruled.

from then on though naruto went downhill. apart from the fillers being the worst things ever; would have preferred a season break of two years rather then the fillers. the filler storylines licked the bag; bad guys attack, stuff happens plus lame jokes, naruto uses rasengan, bad guys get owned. overuse killed the rasengan.
the aforementioned detail is no longer present in naruto. i like seeing the manga fights animated, but only if they're properly paced and detailed. now the fights take waaaay too many episodes, which would be alright if they were still detailed. but they're not. they animators have gotten lazy and even the quality of the drawings have dropped. compare an episode from the first 50 eps of naruto, an ep around the 130 mark and the new season...

the endless screaming of goku and the z fighters charging to supersaiyin over 10minutes (fast forward) killed dragonballz. and for me naruto anime is in the icu, observed by lazy doctors, keeping him only just alive so they can leech as much money as possible for as long as possible from him. either revive him and pump him full of adreneline, or make an exception regarding euthanasia and put him out of his misery.

Anime is really crappy. They censor a lot of the violence and language, the pacing is really slow, there are so many damn fillers, they cover Tsunade's cleavage... the list can go on.

Don't you mean it's no fun after you read the manga?

Can you stop responding to other people's posts? You do know that you're spamming, right? Which is against the rules, btw. >_> Also it's not only against the rules, it also annoys a lot of people. Only post when you have to say something on-topic, like in this example, you should compare the Naruto manga against the anime. ... I see that lacking in your post though. I sincerely hope you learned something. biggrin

On-topic: I agree that "Save Gaara" anime arc was horrible. @_@ A true hell... And I still watched every one. xD But when Sai came, the pace definitely started to pick up. And some episodes are even worth downloading. I still have my fears though. T.T Bleach anime moves way faster, and their fillers are 10x times better. But even the Naruto manga is slowely these days.
