Due to this ignorant post, I decided to make this thread. From what I've heard, Pain and Pein are actually both correct, but English-speaking people usually prefer the name that isn't actually an English word, hence the popular use of Pein.

It's the same case with Raito & Light with Death Note, no? o__O I still call him Light though, since my native language isn't English so it doesn't bother me that much. Maybe an experienced translator can give his view?

No, the leader of the organization is Pein.

Tobi is Madara's cover in Akatsuki where he's just a minion. While Madara is probably some employer who hired/requested the services of the organization, "Akatsuki".

Maybe Pein and Madara have similar goals, or Madara forced Pein to obey him. Whatever it may be - even if Madara bosses Pein around - that still doesn't mean that Madara's the Akatsuki Leader.

Anyways, we're going off-track. laugh

ペイン which is how they write it in Katakana is pronounced "Pain" In Japanese. Thus no matter which way I see I think of it that way.

In japanese the "e" is pronounced like the "a" in Pain. And the "i" is like "ee". So "Pein" and "Pain" are pronounced the same way. I know, I speak Japanese...

Yes, but it is the English word "pain", seeing as all the crap he talked about during his confrontation with Naruto dealt with "pain" you can't really deny that, thus making that one more correct.

Plus when people write "Peins" I can't help but see "Penis" for an instant...it's slightly disturbing, really.

It's Pain. You guys are missing the point here. Pain isn't his real name. He calls himself that because of his past and the pain he suffered throughout. It's not "Pein". It's just common sense here guys.

It is definitely pain. It was in one of the databooks I think, but it was definitely written in english as pain.
