Though this thread was from a month ago but I'll offer my opinion anyway.
It really depends. The anime adaption is not that bad compared to many other anime adaptions so I think you should give the anime a shot. And if you want more insight of the story then of course, read the manga. For me, the shallow person that I am... enjoy the anime's animation/designs more than I do for the manga but I admit the latter is very worth while to read. The developments never ceases to amaze me. (: So I say both, whichever works really.

read the manga first then follow the anime. And no matter what, don't drop the manga: 'cuz if the manga is still ongoing, when its anime adaption is about to complete its 26-ep format the animators will most likely attempt to save the day by either changing the whole course of the story (in most cases for worse) to somehow end it on schedule, or throwing in a lameass ending. That won't be pretty, I tell you.

I would definitely go with the Manga. The anime isn't bad but the Manga has better art and in my opinion isn't as dark as the Anime. In the first episode and some of the other ones too, the humor from the Manga isn't really as good. They just don't carry it out as well as the Manga. So yeah, I would go with the Manga.

I would say watch the anime because i have seen that, but i would probably change my mind after reading the manga. I'm just wondering whether or not there are many changes between the anime and manga.
Generally speaking though, manga tends to be better, i don't know really, experience wise i just hear people enjoy the manga version better read and watch it you get the joys of both lol

I have not really follow the anime since I'm not very interested in anime in general. But I have heard a lot of people in Nabari fandom complained about the anime ending. They hated it.
Plus a lot of time humour presented in the manga is lost in the animes.

I watched the first five episodes of the anime and I didn't enjoy it very much. The main character's attitude kind of bothers me. I know he's the same in the manga, but I suppose I just didn't enjoy the animation and his voice actress very much. I thought the anime was rather boring. Development was weak and things just seemed to start happening. The music was very beautiful though and I thought the drawings were nice. I think I'd rather go for the manga, which I have yet to start.
edit--
Actually, I change my mind after watching episode 6. Things are starting to get interesting now.

Read the manga first is my suggestion. I watched the anime up to episode 16 (that was how far it was when I got interested) and the went to read the manga; they're quite different after a point. However, the flow of the anime is great and the animation is better at the start, so I do recommend eventually watching it. Perhaps you should read a section of the manga and then watch the corresponding episode? They do branch off eventually, though. Still, it's really cool to actually hear Miharu and Yoite talking to one another!
