I've been thinking about buying a Intuos3....it looks pretty awesome. But I don't know if it's worth what I think it is.
If so, what size? Nothing more than 9x12.

Yes it's definitely worth it if you plan on using it for art and stuff like that. It makes drawing and cleaning a lot easier. It's pressure sensitive so the harder you press down on it the thicker the lines get and with less pressure they get thiner. It's also easier to create smoother lines. I have an intuos3 4x6.

It depends a lot on how much you use it. I do a decent drawing at around every week or so then for me it would be pretty much useless. If you're serious about drawing though it's worth it.
And I agree with LawX, cleaning is a pain in the rear, but the tablet fixes that

Fuck yea.
I'm an arts major so it's DEFINATELY worth it. Of course I draw. XD And CG. So it makes life easier for me.
I actually only turned into a manga editor almost a year after getting my tablet.
If you're only going for like manga cleaning or something like that, IMHO it's not worth it.
I have a Graphire 6x8 (smaller ones are worthless to me and large ones are not necessary). Graphires only carries 512 levels of pressure sensitivity, compared to the Intuos that carries twice that much. Graphires are cheaper too.
Graphires = for hobbies
Intuos = for more professional
Graphires aren't been made anymore (only Bluetooth are available). Bamboos are okay too, but fairly recent. I did my homework when I was looking for a tablet, but bamboos didn't exist then so I don't know much about them.
*will probably upgrade to Intuos soon*

worth it!
it's amazing how much easier it is to convert pencil drawings and make animations with one of those. mine is a Trust TB-4200, it was cheap, and it works great.

Get a Wacom though.
they're MUCH better quality than others. Trust me. I experimented with a fuckload of brands and Wacom is the best one.

I have a Wacom and it is my BFF for life. SRSLY.
If you are doing anything art related on a computer, a tablet will make your life a million times easier. Also, great to mess around with when you have the time.

I second that!
It's definitely worth it. Even though mine's the smallest version ( 6 x 8) it's still awesome. One day (if I can afford it) Ima get myself a cintix (the touchscreen monitor one )
