Martin Luther King maybe. But no matter what, I just couldn't stand Thoreau's writing. "Civil Disobedience" was okay, but Walden was terrible...

Herostratus.
Because of what he did to be remembered. So this guys wants to be famous/remembered through history, so what does he choose to do? To burn down one of The Seven Wonders of The Ancient World: The Temple of Artemis, then brags to everyone that he did it. After he's executed, his name is forbidden to be mentioned, but we know about him today, and I really do hope that the word Hero came from his name, but it doesn't so whatever.
And this other guy Mansour something.
One day he proclaimed to a village or city that he was god (this being blasphemous to the most extreme) they then proceeded to execute him. They did this by chopping him to pieces from the feet up until his head. He truly did believe he was god, as while they were doing this, the was laughing the whole time. The book he wrote or that was written about him, is forbidden among the young, as it is said to make one go insane if one is unprepared.

I'll translate "cool" into "the ones I most admire".
Ludwig von Beethoven
Socrates
Leonardo da Vinci
The "why" is pretty self explanatory.

That's what I call badass. She makes Charlie Manson, Armin Meiwes and her good ole` neighbor Vlad Ţepeş look like sissies.

Oh.. The one that killed 600 young women?
Don't remember why she did that though... ~
I think that was something to do with her wanting to stay young.

Trogdor, sure he isn't human and sure hes a fictional character that only exists in 2-Dimensions but frankly hes beyond all that. Hmm I guess Fonzie would come in 2nd place, I've never really watched Happy Days before but frankly anyone who gets a positive reference in Pulp Fiction is OK in my books.

Was he a man? Or was he a... Dragon Man? Or maybe just a dragon?

Regardless, he was still Trogdor. The s, by the way, stands for "sucks"

Pencils were developed over time. No one person invented it.

Socrates was pretty badass when you consider what all he accomplished.
