Mac's are pretty but expensive for a college student like me. I prefer a non-Mac computer with Windows XP. Vista did not work out for me at all. I installed and later uninstalled it in the same night.

As long as it runs my games and
can play them without lag or steam,
I am okay with it.

i hate to break it to Mac fans but Macs are PC now.

You see PC really used to mean IBM compatible. Meaning it was a computer that was based off of the same architecture as IBM computers. Well before Macs were not PCs because they used their own non IBM compatible architecture. Now on the other hand since they have switched over to Intel, their architecture is that of a PC meaning that even in the most conservative definitions Macs are PCs. I mean you can run windows on them right? That means that they are PCs.

I don't like macs for a number of reasons. They don't offer lower cost options, I mean what you can get is pretty decent for the money you are spending, but really they don't have a good entry level computer. They orphan their hardware and products a lot, meaning from one OSX to the next, they change code enough that hardware, and even software no longer functions correctly or at all. They have a quick and expensive upgrade cycle. I mean they release an new OSX quite often, and they cost 130 of each one, so basically you are spending the same amount if not more on OS's as Windows which has a much slower cycle, and well they stretch their OS's a lot more with updates and service packs. They are not intuitive. I mean even Windows has a decent update program, even if you have to you IE to do so. Linux, which most have the misconception of being hard to use, has a easier time updating and upgrading. Oh and another thing OSX is written over FreeBSD which is open-source, but because of some modifications they did to the code, and the fact that they don't want you to actually get OSX to install on other computers besides a Mac they closed sourced the code, greedy company that they are.

Finally I HATE Macs for one reason, the over inflated ego that surrounds their pompous asses (sorry). They make it sound like everything is better on a mac or as a mac, but really it is not. I mean they have made it sound like their products are the greatest things since slice bread, and trump how well and fast it runs, but really anyone can get an OS to run fast on hardware when they lock it into specific hardware. And Mac fan boys just really get on my nerves.

So my vote for Mac Vs PC or should I say correctly Mac VS Windows, is this neither, because I use linux, and while it may have it's faults that some people can't live with. Well I much rather have the faults then be stuck in the Corporation built OS quagmire.

Can't judge. I haven't touched an apple computer since elementary school and that was in the eighties. My personal preference though is a PC with a minimal install of XP Pro. All the additional graphical crap just annoys me.

My father uses a cheap but new Dell PC that runs Vista Home Basic. As far as I'm concerned, it is the single worst OS Microsoft's put out. It runs worse than my seven year old PC running windows 2k even at minimal settings. Just navigating through the files feels aggravating. I'm tempted to blow the damn thing away and turn it into a Linux box.

I have a PC(laptop) with vista, and it works fine for what I use it for, i.e. music/video. I don't game at all, so I don't care about gaming specs.

^^ Yeah now that I quit PC gaming and normally only use it to watch anime, read, and see web junk, I was thinking about going over to a mac ^^;;;.

The only reason I would want to get a Mac is so that I could use Garageband

I've used both, and I've seen Linux. I'm most used to Windows and I don't like the way Macs are organized. I find that the Start Menu (which is all I use) can be set up and customized conveniently, plus you don't have to remember which icon goes with what.

Basically, I think that the perfect OS would be Linux that has the support of more programs and a start menu.

Windows PC.

I do like some of the features of Mac and MacOS though. But it kind of restricts the freedom of using a computer imho.

I also don't understand what's with all the Vista hate - if you take your time and disable all the annoying features and install some good software, it becomes a very nice OS.

And install Service Pack 1. Makes it soooo much faster. But I agree with that. Actually have gotten used to it. Ultimately, I do like the way XP was set up better. It was geared more towards professionals and people who were going to use it for work and research rather than people just using it at home, which Vista is geared towards.
