interesting question...remember that it is usually pervy boys who like huge tits (nothing wrong with that).
but it's like asking, why don't guys in ecchi shounen manga's have trousers that show their large c0cks?
as a guy....do you really want to see that?? really??
i think it's the same for girls, they focus more on the story and the male characters, why give added stress to the mangaka?

Actually, it's shounen not shoujo manga that have men in trousers showing their large cocks. I am sure guys want to see that. And it's usually guys who like large cocks.
Example: City Hunter

Yes, straight guys included. They like it because they think of it as an ideal. And they want to identify with the protagonist with big cocks. That's what manga like City Hunter are for.

I'm pretty sure every straight guy does not identify himself with the ones you're talking about.

So what's your view on shounen manga like City Hunter (this manga was a big hit during its time) where the guy showing his big cock and chasing pretty women all the time? It's just a form of wish fulfilment. It doesn't mean it's realistic. Wish fulfiment is usually not realistic and the readers read it knowing that. As I said, it's regarded as some sort of ideal. Guys would think it's the image of an "ideal man", "hero" or someting similar therefore they like to read such manga. Or can you give any other explanation?
It's interesting that both huge boobs and huge cocks exist in manga for guys (ecchi and hentai included).

In a lot of shojo manga, the main girl isn't supposed to have any real "sex appeal", it explains why she's not popular among the boys
In a lot of stories the best friend is the one who is supposedly attractive and has all the right curves XD
In a lot of stories the best friend is the one who is supposedly attractive and has all the right curves XD
yeah that explains it....in shonen manga u see a pathetic wimp get a harem ...so its analogical to that in shojo where the weak, background girl walks away with a hunk while paris hilton is left speechless with her chihuahua.....
This.
Although I cringed at the use of Paris Hilton as an example of an attractive woman.

+1 on sex appeal. It's mostly about character types. Even in shounen, there is this trope\cliche where the sexually confident, outgoing, sensual woman is tall and has large breasts, while the short and flat-chested girl might be a true warrior but she is insecure or dense when it comes to love and romance.
Shounen examples: Bleach, where Matsumoto is a tall, leggy, DDD seductress, while the 'young warrior' Rukia is short and flat. Of course, there is also Orihime who looks similar to Matsumoto... but once again notice how her less feminine friend Tatsuki is of average height and has small breasts.
In short.
Tall & big chest = either motherly or very sensual and flirty or a young girl who promises to be either or both when she grows up.
Tall & average chest = all about business or independent and behaves kind of like a man, depending on the plot, anyway she's not into flirt and warm fuzzies
Short & large chest = rare
Short & flat chest = either shy and introverted, or genki and somewhat childish, or a tsundere type who is extremely awkward when it comes to relationships
And a lot of shoujo heroines fall into the last category, unfortunately, not the tsundere part.

sorry but, count me and every other guy I know out of this, none of us like to see cocks. I really have no Idea where did you get this ideia but it is one of the most ridiculous thing I read in my life, this "teory" throws away every aspect of our thinking, really.
I don't deny tough that it might make sense to a girl.
As to why girls in shoujo have smaller tits...
1 - There is not much to gain by drawing a character with big tits since girls won't really care about their size
2 - In general shoujo manga is made for japanese girls, and most of them don't have big tits nor are they popular, having a character most readers can relate to is a real boost to the manga
Because shoujo mangas are more realistic when it comes to japanese girls.

Exactly. It's the same reason that most shounen heroes are plain-looking, slightly idiotic, underachievers. (At least in harem shounen/seinen, anyway.) They wouldn't want to read a story about some smoking hot guy with a huge peenor and a large wallet getting a bunch of girls, would they? No.
Also @coffee_11...I don't know a ton of straight guys that are particularly interested in seeing other guys' cocks. lol

And the first post back is about tits
It's just something I noticed. Even when a chick is supposed to have nice tits, they seem to forget them sometimes. Ex. I was reading Dengeki Daisy, and the female teacher supposedly has D cups, but they draw her flat
Just for realistic purposes, I guess my curiosity lies
This isn't that hard to figure out honestly.
The Average Japanese women is what 5'2 and ≤100. How much room does that give you for a chest. Japanese women are particularly flat. Ask some women expats how difficult it is to find bras there. Seriously they all say make sure you pack bras because they are hard to find.
Also, you do realize that a D cup in japan does not equal D by american standards right? It would be about a C cup and C's can look pretty small depending on shirt/bra. But for a C it looks pretty spot on.
Also, seriously I do not care about women's breasts, I mean that's not the focus of the story. I mean really wtf do i care about that? Also, breasts that are prevelent in shounen are often e-h cups honestly.
Also, fashion wise breasts can limit you (well being chestless can to but as this is japanese and often have what's hot in japan fashion wise...)

Girls don't appreciate reading about a girl who is hotter than them. Sadly, many shoujo readers are that shallow. After all, it's targeted towards awkward, puberty-stricken, boy crazy teenage girls.
Makes sense, right? You want a relatable main character, not a sexy chick who is confident around the hot guy rather than flustered and a total idiot. (Um, FYI... I actually do want a badass sexy heroine... I'm considered weird by shoujo standards)

Um speak for yourself with that low esteem bull ish. Are you seriously going to sideline all female readership like that. Oh except for yourself of course. You were right about the main character needing to be relatable but i think you're off when you say they're being shallow.
Also, the things you want are not mutually exclusive. :/
I likewise really love a confident women/girl, you're not that much of a special snowflake. However, I do think it it is extremely easy to make someone too good to be true. For a story to be interesting there needs to be character growth and room for improvement. If your character is confident/sexy/smart/ sometimes authors do not take the time to flesh them out and they're no better then flusted puberty struck girl. It just makes you a boring (but confident) mary sue.

This also, D-cups and C-cups don't look giant unless you're wearing a pushup bra, because VERY RARELY are they 'perky' (unless they're fake). So you can have a C or D cup that doesn't look particularly big because of the bra and the clothes, and generally 'cause they're not gravity-defying.

I have to agree with brigee88 on what she said about this one since I have nothing really new to say to this.

I don't think you all actually get what I am talking about. Did you actually try to understand vintage shounen manga like City Hunter. Sure, such manga are rare today. They do show big cocks, which were pretty common when I read manga in the 1980s and early 1990s. But I am not saying straight guys like to see them in a sexually exciting way. Like I said, readers might regard having big cocks as being a hero or "ideal man". It's pretty similar to many of today's movies targeting guys having huge muscles. They are not there to sexually arouse straight guys, but to be worshiped or identified as a symbol of masculinity. Of course you all know movies have more strict censorship than vintage shounen manga. Therefore the latter can show cocks.

To relate to the common girl. They don't have much over there, thanks to genetics. What small chested girl wants to read about a large chested "blessed" girl who's confident and gets all the boys. It's better to read about a confident small chested girl who gets the boys even though she doesn't have a large chest.
