My country celebrates Mother's Day on every Sunday of the 2nd week of May (in this case, 10th of May 2009). I was thinking of buying her a present, since I just got my salary from my first real job. I just wanted to ask everybody's opinion on what should I buy for her to make it memorable? biggrin

It all depends on your budget, and her interests/preferences.

Flowers & candy & such are nice, but I'm more into practical gifts; even though "they" say never to buy a woman appliances I've been very happy to receive things like a blender, microwave, & breadmaker as gifts (I think those were birthday and/or Christmas, tho, not Mother's Day).

It's on May 10th.

What is your mom interested in? Like, my mom likes to make bread herself.. so I could get her.. some flour. ..... :/

Umm yeah I have the same problem.. no idea what to get her XD
She doesn't really like things like flowers, she wants something useful probably, and has enough earrings and stuff already.

Everyone post more ideas >_<

@robbit
It depends on the country. Most country celebrates Mother's Day on Sunday of the 2nd week of May (so this year it will be on 10th May). Some country celebrates it on Sunday of the 1st week of May like Portugal and Spain (if I'm not mistaken) and some celebrates it on Sunday of the 3rd week of May like France and Sweden (if I'm not mistaken). For UK I think it was on 22nd of March (correct me if I'm wrong). BTW, my mom prefer flowers that u can plant them in front of the house, since she likes gardening A LOT.

@VyvyanWilde
My problem is exactly the same as yours, she already has enough earnings and stuff, it's hard to decide on what to give. She would probably be happy with anything I give her, but I want it to be extra special, since this is the first time I'm buying the present with my full-time job salary. biggrin

If she likes gardening, how about buying her a live flowering plant that she can enjoy indoors for a while & then plant out in the yard? (Be sure to find one that will survive outdoors in your climate...) You could get a nice card to go with it, & maybe a gourmet/organic chocolate bar as well? (My mom really likes the dark chocolate bars that are made by some of the organic/fair trade/etc. companies.)

suggest the day/weekend passes to any kind of spas and resorts you might have around.

When I think again, I realized that she really loves drinking tea. She enjoys her teatime more than anything. So I probably should buy her a tea set? Or probably a certain type/brand of tea? Anybody have some idea?

Why dont you buy Orchids? My mom loves them. Especially the hanging orchids, they're beautiful and exotic too!

As for tea..Have you tried buying Earl grey tea? And if you want a specialised tea for your mom, try purchasing Benoist. If it's available in your country cool

Mother's Day in my country is celebrated on 26th may so I still have 20 days to get a present ; )

yet I have no idea what to get. Flowers are no-no (she's allergic), she doesn't drink tea or coffe; earring and stuff - nah, I won't buy stuff like that, because it's almost impossible for me to match her taste x]...
hummm, I got an idea - maybe some chocolate? I mean delicious chocolate with chili cool (though the price is very high ;/)

what should I buy for her to make it memorable?

1) Buy a ribbon
2) Kidnap a child
3) Put the ribbon on the child
4) Give it to your mom ("Mom, suprise, it's yours!)
5) Enjoy
laugh

Take her to see the Wolverine movie. If she like gorgeous Australian men like my mom does, she'll be overjoyed. none

I buy mine marzipan. The ones shaped like fruit. She loves them.

Flowers eh? Wanna make it a bit different? Hanging basket full of flowers. Then you can hang it up in the front yard..if there is somewhere to hang them of course. It looks beautiful when they've bloomed smile

How about some "bonding family time." Parents usually like those, mostly mothers. biggrin
