hahaha

i'll directly answer your thread's title...reality is a word americans made up to segregate between the dream-like realms and your daily life...other ethnics also have words for "reality", such as realidades in Spain...it holds no significant meaning other than to be used in the phrase "to escape from reality"...in that sense, reality means your daily life...

arguments may arise about whether we are living in reality, the supposed "realm" of physical matter, or just in a figment of our imagination, a product of the brain in unconsciousness...however, when discussing about that subject of whether things or real or unreal, i would prefer to refer to the word "consciousness"...reality is a product of consciousness, which is scientifically proven to exist, and exists with the label of "product of the brain"...

i agree with Aristotle's argument, that reality must be verifiable with the 5 sense...the other option would be Plato's argument, reality is made up of ideas from the mind...for me, what we perceive is our "reality" is simple, everything that can be proven real through our 5 sense...all of these ideas about "memory", "morals", "feelings", "thoughts", and "reality" are simply just products of the mind...human's brains come up with these words to call for the functions and abilities of our brains, since we have the luxury of being at the better end of the bargain of evolution...we exist because our senses verify the our existence with the existence of our surrounding...we simply be...

and about those mental patients that see stuff we don't, they're probably lacking (or having too much of) some chemical or mechanisms in their brains to be able to perceive things we don't...it's not that they're not normal, it's just that they're different...whether the things they perceived are real or not, it depends on each individual, whether their 5 sense verify the existence of those things or not...

In my opinion reality in general doesn't exist. There is not a single reality that is shared by everything. Everyone lives in there own reality based off of there perception of the world. In these perceived reality's things can exist in two ways, as a tangible object or in understanding. For something to exist in the understanding means that someone could think up said something. For example, a flying pig. I can imagine one therefore it exists in the understanding. A tangible object is simply something you can perceive with your senses(sight, sound, smell, taste and touch).

I do indeed think I am real. If everything around me is all a dream, then I have one fucked up imagination.

To me none of you are real.

And I agree with Kashi...
Real or not, I still have things to accomplish.

Don't need to know. I am me. I feel alive. I do what I want and have goals I want to accomplish whether real or not, and that's all I need.

didn't read all threads just some of the first posts.

Reality and dreams aren't far off eachother, do you know that the same part of the brain we use to "see" the world with are the same we use to dream with, we can't see what we don't understand, alot of stuff is around you when u try to see, but you can't see everything because your brain doesn't "know" how to make up for everything.

And about touch.. we can never touch anything, the molecules resist each other like opposite magnets and therefore u can never really touch anything.
I like to think of the world in terms of quantum physics, that all have impact and we can shape everything.

But to the question at hand.
i think that myself is the only "real" person in my world, all people have their own world, everyone sees it different perceives it different, therefore what we see isn't what rest sees, and therefore with our mind and thoughts we become the only "real" thig in our own world, because the brain is what decodes everything, and it can decode to your advantage, therefore it's your world, dreams and "reality"... oh wait, reality? in terms of quantum physics matter isn't solid, it's to be seen with its building blocks, and can be changed by your will.

Therefore if i were to TRULY believe i could walk on water, i probably could.

Well, i`m pretty sure i exist, at least on some kind of spiritual level. I don`t know if anyone/anything else is a deam or something and i don`t care right now as long as i find out some day.

Imho, I think we are actually real in matter and occupying space. Its just that our senses are limited and we rely too much on them that we often get a sense of not existing. Which is why schizophrenia and any sort of psychoses is scary not to mention dementia and Alzheimer's..

To answer this brain masturbation I'll go to a fridge and grab a beer (I'd rather grab a wench, but there's no available at the moment) ...

...it feels real and even if it's not...I don't really care, as it's cold and tastes good.

Since most of you seem to believe in your
existence, I have a good reason to believe
that all of us exist.

how come? lets assume that we are your mind's umm, .... products. you may want us to believe in our existence. so still we would exist solely in your mind. and since we only exist in your mind we wouldn't exist irl.

did i make sense? or was it just pure nonsense? none
