There are a lot of threads on "recommend me some manga" or "what is your favorite series". But I want to know what is the very best manga. So I pose the question like this:

If you met a person that was fated to only read one series of Manga in their entire life, what would you tell them to read?

As in, they will never be allowed (for whatever reason) to read any other series ever ever ever.

So--- you have to think carefully, what is the one that someone would enjoy, because they will forever think this is the best manga out there. Please put down your choice and explain, discuss, flame (j/k), and do whatever it is to decide.

biggrin biggrin biggrin

It would largely depend on the person and what he/she likes. Like, if he liked action and swords, etc. then I'd say Rurouni Kenshin, since that is one of my favorites. If it were a girl my age, maybe Fruits Basket.

More than likely, I'd say Rurouni Kenshin, Fruits Basket, Bleach and Naruto (if their endings are good), or Deep Love.

Well, I guess it depends on what this poor, poor ill-fated person liked, really.

I would recommend Immortal Rain (shojo haters beware), simply because it was my first manga read, ever. If I had not liked it, I probably wouldn't have gotten into manga at all.

Actually, I think I would recommend something really really bad to the poor sap, so that way he wouldn't like it and not feel so bad that he could never read another manga biggrin

One Piece! One of the best mangas ever made! Its a lot of fun to read, the story is deep and just really good (its not that great or deep at first, but well get much better as you continue reading it) and is also full of many funny moments aswell, a really great cast of characters, and is a long series that is at 47 volumes right now and from what i have heard mister Eda say (the mangaka) it looks like it will be around that of 70+ in the end biggrin, and it really feels like you are taken on a grand adventure.

Hard decision bcuz you'd want it to be funny, deep, action-packed, and with a touch of romance all at the same time. Hmmm..... screw it, Naruto is one of my favorites(espcially pre-time skip) and has a little bit of everything.

But yea mainly it would depend on what the person was into in the first place

I guess that is why I posed the question that way. This would be a non-manga reader who does not really know what they are into yet.

Imagine you meet them at the bus station and you don't really get to know them, but want to give them a recommendation before they get on the bus out of your life forever.

And only one! (Xeronia)

Is that Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou? I really really liked that one too! I haven't yet read a great deal of scanlated series. The ones I have read haven't been super-impressive, but that was was really great biggrin

Depends on what they like, really.

For some reason, I really would try to get 'em to read Demon Diary. It doesn't really have an amazing plot or anything, but it's just so amusing...
