It is interesting to see how people have easily forgotten, not only our history, but the definition of old concepts. Today fascism and (in the USA) socialism have taken an almost mythical status. Uttering those words makes one only think of the powerful imagery or atrocities these terms are associated with. Today, some have even begun using the word “fascialism”.

While that might seem humorous to some, these things show that we have forgotten what these terms meant today, and more importantly why these political movements came about. Only 20 years ago, Yugoslavia experienced a war where entire ethnic groups were targeted for extermination. Today, we are seeing more and more frustration with the government and the political process. A gap between the rich and poor is growing larger, while unemployment lingers at a high level. A generation of college graduates are unable to find jobs and future, while the elderly and workers now see their own governments threatening to cut them off. Whatever your political alignments are, the greatest fear one should have is of extremism rising up again and threatening our liberal institutions.

Please try to remember this definition, and try to see what parts you can find in this manga version of Mein Kampf, by East Press.

Guys, stop being retarded, censorship makes people stupid.

This line in unintentionally ironic in a very hilarious way. If only you had chosen the word "ignorant" instead.

Communism doesn't really have many similarities to Nazism... human nature doesn't allow it to function correctly, so it's often abused to similar ends, but from an ideological standpoint they're pretty darn different. Heck, a lot of political theorists still try to misguided draw a measure of ideologies which places fascism at the extreme right and communism at the extreme left... obviously that's not entirely correct, but the point is that it's easy to perceive things that way without terrible amounts of misconception.

On this manga: why the heck not? I mean, I admittedly get irritated when a title butchers a work of great literature while attempting to retell it, but nonfiction is more acceptable since it's still just trying to communicate the same information. Art is art, but information is information. Why not try to release it in as many different ways as possible?

In answer to the title. Yes. It was very unexpected. I don't mind it but...unexpected.

No, I didn't go wtf. And why should I? There's tons of manga based on books/novels/etc. Why should this be any different? Just because it was Hitler who wrote it and it contains his political ideology (I admit, I didn't read the book, all hail wikipedia)?

Maybe I'll pick up the manga, as Toto said, it's interesting to read about psychopaths and sociopaths.

I personally enjoyed reading it (so far). It was very well-presented and well-drawn.

As for the political correctness of this... I don't give a crap.

In my opinion, the only person you have to fear when you're reading this is yourself. If you find yourself agreeing or something, to an extent, then that's just what happens. But there's not much to worry about anyway: from a social psychology standpoint, beliefs don't even directly influence every piece of your behavior. Beliefs just lead to a general trend in your behavior... and either way, you're fully responsible for your actions. If anything, you can truly see how much of his ideology you agree with and then understand when too much is too much (probably none). To me, being able to understand the most disgustingly ass-backwards mentality (to you) and then truly finding that you do not agree with it, and why you don't... is important mental growth.

I mean, what exactly are you people complaining about here? Is it controversial? Heck yes. But why does that affect you? Why are you so afraid of reading this? It's just a story. Do you agree with the way Kira did things? Maybe not. I don't really think this is that much different (well, in some ways, I know there are differences but yeah...).

So, summary:
Do I think this is important to read?
No clue, what's important to read is only as important as what you take out of it when you're done reading.
Do I think it's interesting?
Yes, it's pretty well-presented, and it goes into the psychology of one of the most influential people in the world.
Is it controversial?
Of course! "Killed quite a few people, why would you wanna get into this guy's head?" My question would be "why not?"
This %&#@ is @$&#ing evil.
I disagree, nothing is evil. This is just a collection of thoughts and ideas, as is any work. Evil is never intrinsic to something. I mean, hell, the entire concept of evil is forged by people. But putting the identity of evil on the shelf, the only way this is evil is if you actually believe it and start believing it in real life. Otherwise, it's just an interesting read about the mind of a madman (at least what we consider one). Those are my thoughts on that.

... I'd kinda prefer to not argue this any further though, because an argument on this could last ages..

So, no matter how much my argument gets torn apart from here on..... *Goes back to lurking*

Except he wasn't a psycho/sociopath in the clinical sense. People just like to believe that, because it's difficult and disturbing to imagine a stable, sane person commit these horrible deeds. He was pretty paranoid though.

well the problem isn't really ideology and religion itself
the problem is when there is someone forcing and killing anyone that don't follow/agree with him
i'll cut the lengthy rant with a useful experiment because to be objective and scientific
experimentation is necessary well
Milgram experiment
was conducted to answer the question "Was there a mutual sense of morality among those involved?"
the result is: all people throw morality out the window and throw responsibility on their superiors, leaders and moral figures .... etc
tlbiggrinr sheep mentality roll eyes

I did not read it and i am not going to in the future. There is a good reason as to why the real book is banned in my country.

Why would you fear a book? I don't know if or when I'll read this but it can be an interesting read. As many here have said we have to learn and remember our history. It is easy to say that Hitler was just a madman, that this kind of thing could never happen again. The truth is this could easily repeat if we as a human race commit the same mistakes all over. Today we have rise of nationalism and extreme right wing all over Europe. Unfortunately, all that is a part of human nature, and we have to accept that Hitler was just a human. But when you study WWII you should not see Hitler as such, but more of a symbol. Just a figure that represents bad things that happened not only during that period but that are happening even today. All the causes that led to WWII are still present. We still have wars which are fought all over the world.

Just remember that no social and political system is perfect in it's own right. Communism is just and rightful in theory but it fails to accomplish it's goals in real life. Nationalism is totally unsustainable, and often leads to violence. We have a rule of capitalism in world today but has that made a world a better place. Capitalism is just a way that enables the rich to rule over the poor. And, I know this is pretty grim way of looking at things, but until we as a human race improve ourselves we will see pain and suffering in world constantly. Just turn on a TV or read a newspapers. It's right there. And, just because you are leading safe and good life today doesn't mean that will be the case tomorrow. Not until we change. Will it happen? Who knows.

So, the final point: I look at the past, look at the present and look with fear at our future. And if or when that future comes nothing else will matter again.
