I would consider myself a large connoisseur of fine japanese hip-hop music. I indulge on everything from the underground to the mainstream. I figured I would make a list of some good artists and groups I know of. If you know of some, please do share.

What makes Japanese Hip hop really good? It must be the beats, cause I can't understand the lyrics.

I've got Midicronica's Album #501. I think its great, by the way.

u can't hate a good beat and even if u can't understand the lyrics, the flow and how the person "rides the beat" says alot. soulja boy is a good example of a person who can't stay on beat.

What makes Japanese hip hop so good is that the language actually flows fairly well to a beat. Hip Hop and Rap in general was created with english pronunciation as the core. Japanese can rhyme and flow well with english so it is easily suited for hip hop, not to mention the Japanese really took to the culture and idea of it.

Like I personally do not like French or German rap at all. I don't think it works well. Also only one dialect of Chinese is good, the others sound like shit rapping.

I am very wary of japhop, mainly because I see hip hop as a cultural thing, as I do with most music. Being a sort of a 'purist' I rarely stray from the core of the genre.

heads - short for hip hop heads.

u no while today's youth shun the fab 5, rakim, kane, PB, and run dmc; japanese heads love them and celebrate them in the same way we do with all the jazz and rock acts of the 50''s or 60's. the "core" of hip hop today lies heavily in its underground acts now that mainstream is so oversaturated with garbage. and some of america's best underground acts, maybe because they dont get any love over here, goes over to japan and releases albums and gets mad love. Generation Y heads will never accept our core while the japanese gladly embrace it. point is, the japanese knows hip hop and the quality of music of some of those guys on mrsatan's list can easily rival dat of talib mos or lupe in japan.

Well spoken, I agree completely. Underground hiphop over is here is very amazing, but I love how the Japanese have taken the underground feel and made it their own. Sure they may have some shitty pop style rap crap, but it isn't nearly to the same saturation levels that the US market is.

I agree. Fully. My point was a somewhat, i wouldn't call it racist, but maybe bigoted. Hip Hop is black music. Jazz is black music. The blues is black music. That is where the music was born and that is where it is the best in my opinion. However, more than being a black art form, it is the music of those who live in urban areas. The music of the downtrodden.

That is what I mean by cultural. Most contemporary MCs have lost base with their roots, and only make fools of themselves.

IDK it's complicated. I would be more likely to pick up a reggae record from a Jamaican band, a folk record from a liberal band, and a Latin album from a hispanic band. That and I prefer hip hop in languages that I can understand

Recently I also discovered j-hiphop for myself... =)
So I suggest Home Made Kazoku and nobodyknows+. May be it's too "some shitty pop style rap crap", anyway it's well done. And HMK's albums is easy to find right now.
