>Spin off and alternate story are basically the same thing. They use the characters, plotlines, or world of a series and create something different from its source.
Though some will tell you that "Spin off" specifically indicates a more comedic version of an "Alternate Story"
> A side story adds to the already existing story.
>"Adapted from" means that it was created from an already existing story.
example: most anime are adapted from their manga (since the manga came first)

>Spin off
Follows a character whose popular or extends the narrative and gives insight as to what they do or what they think/see.
The following will use real life examples:
>Alternate story
To take place in a different time.
For class you have two options: Take music or a language. The one you took is what happened in canon. The one you didn't pick would be an alternative.
>Side story
A friend tells you a story of what happened to them. Can or can not take place at the same time at an event you were at. Lets say you go shopping with your parents and siblings but you break off to go to different stores in the mall quickly. Group A goes to a shoe store and B goes to clothing. You meet again and tell stories about what happened.
>Adapted from
Most movies now a days are taken from books, for example.
Can someone give me an explanation and site some examples...
Thanks!!!!

I don't think those terms are exactly related to manga, though. They're more all purpose.
