Quote from LawX
Well I'm not going to just suddenly tell them that I read manga. If they happen to find out that I read manga I won't really care, but it might be a bit awkward for them if they find out the kind of manga I read.

So cool, so true! ( ´∀`)

Honestly, at first, yes. (well, this more relates to anime)...but now I don't really care, since there's tons of people who actually read manga in our school smile

I'm not. Because if I get embarrassed to tell them about it then it's like I'm denying manga, the one thing that has made me go through this sucky life. Besides, my friends and I respect each others' tastes. If they don't like manga and they somehow "insult" it then I won't waste anymore of my time pretending, forcing myself to be their "friend" and denying something I love very much.

As some others have stated: I don't go out of my way to let people know. I'm in community college almost everyone else is older than me so I'd rather not do anything else to make myself seem like a child. If we're actually friends and it comes up then yeah I'll cop to it but I'd rather not get automatically grouped with the "weird anime people" view society seems to take. Although honestly 7th grade in middle school I was a total dweeb and might have been (mistaken for wink ) one! Anime shirts, backpack, keychains... yeah. I would like to make it clear though that I did not have a cat ear hat (but would have.. shy ).

And my boyfriend (who reads more manga than I do) laughs at me now because I still have lingering remnants of my collection. smile wink grin

LOL, it's so funny that all of the posters here voted no, but 1/3 of the voters in total voted yes. In other words, only "NO" people comments!!

Hell, I'm not embarrassed to tell my friends about my BL and yaoi interest, let alone manga.

Well yes, because when I'm trying to explain what manga/anime is they start referring to them as "Children's Cartoons" and that annoys me, so I try to keep away from the subject of talking about my personal interests.
Even though most of the time I just say I enjoy Drawing more (which I do! drawing is the schiznit)
