AND if they did make it, it most likely won't be made soon.Give or take 2 or 3 years and if it takes that long the fan base will most likely die out.

I really hope this doesn't come into fruition. There's already a Japanese version, why can't people watch that? Hollywood movies often glamorize/distort original ideas into something completely commercial and cliche, which would really be a shame since Death Note is such an unique work in and of itself.

Also, Zac Ephron. Are these people serious? Granted that it is an actor's job to separate himself from previous jobs and personal biases, this is Disney Channel's Zac Ephron we're talking about. I'd rather have Vern Troyer take the role. At least then it would be entertaining.

Is Zac Ephron capable of not looking like he's got a stiffy?

...wow...i really don't know what to say...I imagined Zac as Light and started to laugh. He is too happy for that role it seems. I don't really see why America has the need to make a movie when there already is one, but i guess i'll watch it if it ever does come out just for a good laugh laugh

Americans have the bad habit of bying the rights to a movie as soon as they see it makes some amount of money.
They did it with so many japanese horror movies, trying to make it work. but its never the same.
Now they even started to go after Spanish movies, with "the orphanage" and let me tell you, the spanish are the masters of horror. hows that american version going to be like? i wouldn't want to see it.
I doubt there is anybody that can replace L in my head, he's just too unique to be played by some simple american actor (no offence to other actors)

i can see this happening and as long as you dont compare it to the manga this movie might be great. but then again the only type of movie americans can remake and make it better are sci-fi like transformers (it turned out really great)

Frankly speaking, no one in America knows what the hell Death Note is. Except for the Freaking anime freaks with their sick fetishes. That being true, Death Note is just an average manga/anime

I dont care much for death note (or zac efron for that matter) but as long as they dont make him sing or dance, it cant possibly be as bad as high school musical. he is an okay actor.

I agree... they did the same with The Departed (they bought it from the HongKong people, the original movie is Infernal Affairs) and The Departed was much less exciting and overall just not as good... Only reason I watched is cuz I happen to like both Leonardo and Matt Damon laugh

I don't think I'd watch an american death note... since I didnt evenlike the jap one

Idk, I dislike bad dubs (and I've heard some stuff about the dubbed movie) and some people don't like subs. I'm sure the Japanese don't distort things roll there is always people complaining about manga to live action so...

I hope they make it, Zac gets the part just to spite you all ;P

Oh gods, no. With the exception of a few titles, almost everything by Hollywood kinda sucks. Not that I like DN that much though.

PLEASE let it not happen. I just think it'd be really badly done. That being said, I'd watch it, just to complain about how bad it was. But there is hope - the rights to Battle Royale were bought a while ago and nothing happened with that, so we can pray that the same happens with Death Note. Yes, Hollywood would kill Death Note. I just can't see anything else happening.

And yes, yes, YES, on the Zac Efron front. I don't get why people find him hot in the first place... but aside from that, I just don't see how he has the acting chops to play someone as intense as Light. Light is NOT a cute little happy character, so Efron doesn't exactly have the needed experience... not in my opinion, at least. Ergo, if the thing is made, PLEASE let Efron not be Light. Light is hot, Efron is not. Light is serious, incredibly smart, and edgy, Efron's just... Disney-level cute. I shall now leave and go pray that I don't have to cry myself to sleep because Efron gets the role.
