death note is good... but.. when america makes movies based off of a games, cartoons, animes, comics, etc... its all about the face for them, then talent... so i dont like those kind of movies...
usually movies based off of a book, is the best, because they try to choose the best person who fit into that character, and focuses on how they will flow with the theme....
but i'll watch it, for the hell of it...
but ill tell you what i DO like about anime live-action movies made in america is.... that they americanize everything...
just like how when they plan on with "akira" where instead of neo-tokyo, its ganna be neo-manhatten... lol... thats hilarious....
i wonder how they're ganna convert yagami light to??
maybe theyre just ganna change it to like "light smith"...

Actually, I think Zack would be a good Light. 0.o Looks wise, anyway.
Thats kinda how I always thought light would look like in real life. XD
His acting, however, leaves something to be desired.
Anyway, I'm so-so. Something like this is too hard to make into a movie; it'll fail, while scoring a couple good points.... Maybe.

Just like with Dragonball Evolution and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, I'm not gonna waste my money with it and I'll just watch it through a torrent. IMO you can't really justify paying to watch a bad movie even if you're "gonna see it just to laugh at how bad it is". The movie companies will be laughing at you because they took money from you that you'll never get back. It's better to laugh at how bad it is by watching it for free through torrents or streaming.
And why is Hollywood choosing NOW to make these American remakes of manga and anime? Why didn't they start doing them when it became real popular in the late 90's-early 00's?

Because it's even more popular now?
Back in the late 90's and early 00's, I never saw any manga/anime in my local public libraries. Now posters and whatnot are everywhere and they even have dedicated areas strictly for anime/manga.
I've never seen the movie. I liked the manga. Never finished the anime.
It's sort of a mixed feelings for me when I hear something will be a remake/adaptation, be it of a film or a book. It has good and bad points, and I really don't think we should judge it before seeing it how it will actually be. I'm not saying it will be a fantastic production.

I guess where I live it died down, because I remember that it was crazy popular back then, and now people barely talk about it as much as they used to.

I didn't even like the japanese live action Death Note, I wonder what Hollywood could even do to make this movie good.

It might be because of the generational thing all those people who got in to it in the late 90s are now in a position to make stuff

I actually think Doraemon live-action would have been a much better idea.
i already disappointed with RESIDENT EVIL, STREET FIGHTER, DEAD or ALIVE, DRAGON BALL EVOLUTION. and i had enough. their problem was totally in the story and the casts !
they would make it even worse by destroying DEATH NOTE.
i just hope they make DEVIL MAY CRY and METAL GEAR SOLID into a movie, because i think these titles are more suited to the americans.
