It'd be great if they get unknowns to play Light and L. I "lol" at the thought of making this Efron kid being Light or L; acting as any character from Death Note would be dreadful, unless of course he's one of the guys that gets killed off in the beginning by Light.
Having him act in Death Note is like having a clown act in a bachelor's party.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure the writers are going to butcher the original story and just keep the idea of a Death Note. I bet they're going to change Light into some geeky kid who wants to get pay back on all the people that messed with him and goes on a homocidal writing spree.
Hopefully the writers are at least decent and try to stick to the original story.

Zac Efron as Light?! No way this is going to happen. But it does sounds like Emmy Rossum in the Dragon Ball Movie. Personally, I think Zac's okay for his roles in the High School Musical movies which is supposed to be for primary kids, but not for serious movies like Death Note. I hope it'd be someone who looked handsome & mysterious.

I am all for Zac Efron as Light! He looks so much like him, that it would be sad if they didn't cast him. As long as they don't cast Ashley Tisdale as Misa, then I'm happy.

I have to agree, though I'm really not a fan of the guy.

Hmm...
Well, honestly, I'd prefer lesser-known actors if they would fit better. I mean I could see Efron being Light-- but I would prefer someone else. In my mind he has been stereotyped to fit other movies so it would kind of ruin it for me >_>;
Who knows--- it'll probably be mauled either way hahaha xD

I already knew about this. And yes, Zac does look like Light, but than again, there are millions of people in the US, there are bound to be at least one guy who also looks like Light, and who can also act.

If Zac is cast as light, all the high school musical fangirls will flood the anime fandom. And then we're doomed.

As much as I hate Zac, he actually might do a decent job if for whatever reason it went to him. He's been showing some potential as an actor as long as he stays away from the whole style that Disney had him going for. (I love old Disaney movies, but they hire the worst actors now)
And I don't think an American verion would be bad. They've done a good job on some remade movies (has anyone ever seen the original ring? not good). They tend to have better effects in Hollywood than the Japanese equivalent. Hopefully, if it has good writers, a good director, a good cast, and a sufficient budget, this movie will kick ass!

...seriously. Do we all remember the hashed crap that America jokingly called "Dragonball Evolution?" Or the BS that they tried to pass as "Street Fighter: Chun Li's White Washing and Character Rape?"
American movies are known for two things: Great American based films and making crappy "Hollywood" adaptations of foreign films. CG can only fix so much and, quite frankly, Americans are too expose to GREAT CG in their movie that the rest of the world's CG would be consider crappy! However, given that 90% of American's expected blockbuster films have hundreds of millions of dollars to finance them, whereas the rest of the world's film budget would be lucky to receive ten million dollars, of course the frikk'n CG better damn be top notch?!
Lets face it, American's remake of Death Note will not be anything like the Death Note many of us of have come enjoy. It'll be about a guy name Donald who has a repressed murderous personality call Light, who'll kill the people whom Donald writes down on his personal hit list - ie Donald's Death Note. In the end, Donald realizes that his 2nd personality is evil and some dumb broad will be the reason why Donald turns back to the good side of the force. Because, in America, love for another human being is a good political message to send to the audience. And we can't make a movie without Hollywood injecting it's own political agenda.
That's American's Death Note right there. In theaters in 2011 and will be an epic fail.

Yeugh. Remake this, Remake that.
I'd prefer if they created an alternate storyline instead of using the original story for reference. A Death Note can be dropped anywhere in the world, so there is always a good chance for a change of setting, but i don't think the guys remaking this will understand that.

My answer from last year:
I still stand by my statement. I don't see anything wrong with Zac, he's a pretty good actor if he pulls away from the whole Disney hoohah~
Quote from Rainy Days
If Zac Efron's going to be Light, then Ashley Tisdale should be Misa.
