I'm looking for more shounen fare than seinen since I'm not really in the mood for dark or very deep things right now. Also like the title says I want action/adventure, both or one or the other doesn't really matter as long as it's a bit hot-blooded.

I really want nuanced female characters. They don't have to be physically strong or something, just have depth and not be stereotyped. This does not mean they have to have tragic pasts and some complex story line, and it definitely doesn't mean they're special in some magical/supernatural/whatever sort of way. They don't have to be the romantic interest, but if they are then they cannot be like Sakura (too obsessive and accepting of abuse) from Naruto or Lucy (I just find her really annoying) from Fairy Tail. I would also prefer the female character to be involved in the plot, but they don't have to.

Examples:

Fullmetal Alchemist (Riza and Winry)
Magi (Morgiana)
My Hero Academia (Ochako)
Haikyuu!! (Shimizu and Yachi)

Not looking for:

Shoujo
Josei
Hentai
Ecchi
"Badass" female characters who then need a guy to either save or help every single battle.

(Just realized that three of my four examples are created by female mangaka 😔 Maybe I should just be asking for shounen written by female mangaka...)

Edit: Oh right, and please take a look at my completed/reading/hold/unfinished lists before recc'ing.

Pandora Hearts, I guess? Alice is very popular with the readers and I believe she's not stereotyped, though admittedly I didn't read until the end.

Couldn't really get into it the first go around, I'll give it another look, thanks. 🙂

Thanks for the reccs, I had totally forgotten about wanting to read Birdmen, since I had really enjoyed Kekkaishi. I'll definitely also give the others a look see.
