This is how I feel about Detective Conan. I mean the endless side stories, coupled with plot holes like the neveraging child gets reallll boring after a while. On the other hand Hajime no Ippo and One Piece, while being extremely long, still progress. However I don't like dropping series x.x so I haven't dropped Conan~

I drop manga's all the time when I feel that they've gone on faaar to much for my liking. And its not even when they're necessarily over 20 volumes or so long. Sometimes ever more than a volume is too long for some plots. e_e In fact, just recently I dropped KHR, cause I felt it kept going on for far too long for my liking. And I think I did it with Bleach.

So long as the story is worth holding on to, yeah, I still keep reading it. But if the story loses it's excitement and goes at an extremely slow pace, then only do I drop it.

Yep, many times, I recently dropped Air Gear, it just pulled the story out for too long.

If I find an manga boring after SO many chapters, I just leave them for a while (a month or something) and if I then feel that I want to read on, I do. If I don't, I just think f**k this and I'm done

I dropped Naruto because of this, I read 200+ chapters and just felt it was dragging on, It now has over 400 chapters. I might pick it up again once it ends.

I think the opposite happens to me often:

The series is SOOO long that I don't even want to consider starting it because I can foresee how much fluff and garbage is in the way of the story. I'd like to start Air Gear, but I've seen enough people complaining about its progression to know I'd be disappointed with it if I even made it that far into it.

I wonder if publishers ever look at it in that respect. They make a point of forcing things to be drawn out so that the story will continue for current fans, but there does seem to become a point where you prevent fans from getting onboard due to feeling overwhelmed with what's ahead of you.

Oh, and I totally dropped Kaikan Phrase due to length, and it isn't even that long. It was just that cliched and boring that early, so I knew it wouldn't get any better later on.

Personally I think you should try it. I can't get past the second volume 'cause there is no plot at all (IMHO) so if you don't like it from the start you wouldn't have the problem of worrying about dropping it in the future at all.

Yeah, I totally feel the same. But I think that there are more people who indulges and loves the characters at the point they would like the story not to ever end. And it's more secure for a publisher to insist on a story which is successful than gamble on something new.

To come back OT, I think there are more mangas that I dropped for that, than ones that I finished. biggrin

I dropped Naruto, Bleach, One Piece and School Rumble for that reason. That or because shonen is rapidly starting to feel like garbage (for the first 3 titles that is).

I'm still holding on to Berserk though, and I might restart One Piece as I really like the style.

I dropped Love Monster, because the heroine was too stupid, the guys who feel for her even more stupid, and an over repeting stupid plot.

It was on hold for me, not for scanlators.
Meaning that I haven't read it since summer -07
and when I tried to continue it, I remembered why
it didn't interest me back then.
