I don't think I've ever read a harem that I like... And from some reason when I see "harem" in the genre, it turns me off of the series~

well i might recommend you Love Hina, genre clearly Harem (or not so clearly?) but AWESOME comedy, i swear. :3

Well I tried it... But I dropped it...
Maybe some day I'll try it again. none

harem manga is just like any other genre. There are the really good and the really bad, it just has elements that appeal to more people much easier (fanservice) so people typically think that it is good, but don't forget that there are bad ones out there too. Love Hina was my first and personal favorite harem manga though

Is Shina Dark a Harem Manga? Coz isnt a manga considered in the Harem genre when more than 2 girls have interests or have feelings for the same guy? But in Shina Dark both princesses havnt shown any kind of interest whatsoever in Satan

Well, seems like when in a manga there are 2 or more female peers as main chars, its considered Harem in some way. Dunno, maybe Harem in those case is referred as to the choice the reader can make in favor of one or another heroine?

Harem by definition is three or more women, most having affections for the main character.

Like I said before, the so-called "jokes", characters, and fanservice (well, guy accidentally gets into the bathroom and sees a girl inside. Girl calls him perverted. Who's served and pleased by such fanservice? I don't get it. And there's even worse stuff.) in most harem manga are really bad, childish, uncreative and cheesy. And I would question the tatste and values of those who like them and think the panty and bathroom jokes are sexy.

That said, harem manga I think are good are:

Ranma 1/2: It was really funny when I just started reading manga like 15 years ago. However when I was reading it, I hoped the main guy would end up with someone other than the female lead (Akane) or there would be an even more unexpected ending. Pity it followed the "first girl ending up with the male lead" rule.

Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora: The story doesn't make much sense, I know. But I do like it! I don't know why. If the plot had been improved (I mean the drama) and the story made longer and more complex while everything else left as it is, it would have been a very good manga.

Tokyo Innocent: This is definitely a harem. The story is cute and non-cliched though the storytelling may not be very mature. The art is pretty and ALL the characters are funny and likable. I would recommend it. It's a fun read.

And Dance in the Vampire Bund seems pretty promising though I haven't read enough volumes.

I don't consider Air and Clannad harems.

It's not a very typical one though. Very much like all the other KEY stories.

...

CLANNAD and the other KEY stories are very typical, they're just a bit better at hiding the cliches (or rather, making use of them in unique ways). It's still X number of girls (often with the same typical mass produced personalities as a basis, although they are expanded on) on a single guy, with the romantic connotation. Regardless of whether or not it's better than the average, it's still a harem. Calling it something else is just silly.

NightSwan also said that she wanted to peg me, once, but I'm not sure whether to take that as a compliment or a threat...

Ah, indeed. Of course, we weren't denying it of it's haremness. It's just not like the ones you usually see 'tis all. biggrin But yeah, it does hide the cliches very well...or rather, you could just say it is a well written harem story eyes

some manga was good for many ppl, while some manga just good for only some ppl

its basically depends on ur taste eyes

u know, manga like ichigo 100% is very good for me, but because of the ending, the fans were devided into two...one side says that the ending was good, while the other says that the ending was bad and suddenly turning to hate it. and everyone knew that this topics were argued many times.

but for me, i don't really care what that harem manga ending would become. as long as i can see my fave girls on the manga , i would be amused shy ~oh aya-chan~
because, for me, the main male character is the one who we have to get rid of mwaahahahaha~ kill him if possible cool

well i'm a go for the harem thing but not so pro on the hero being so weak... well like ichigo he got a major change in the end so i was happy.

Well thats all i want and i do agree if done right it can be really a piece of work, beside how each girl represent different con and pro indirectly to the hero always a blast to see how he approach and solve it.

I like some harem manga but the times where it's just an ecchi fest... that's just bleh. It must sell good in Japan or something though. There's lots and some are popular. Maybe the stereotypical pervert actually exists??
