Retarded thread is retarded.

No, seriously.

"Manga is too expensive"?

Are you high?

If you think manga is too expensive, have you not seen anime? $30 (Roughly) for 3 episodes (Assuming you're buying something that came out recently)? Now that's too expensive.

I'm sorry, but manga is not too expensive. If anything, it's cheap. I've been buying manga for years now and I'm not rich by any means. I'm almost poor.

Cheap and expensive can be subjective words you know. >_>

900 dollars? psch that's nothin. My collection is worth about 4000 dollars. And if you add anime, that's about another thousand more.

Plus if what I hear is correct the Mangaka get maybe penny or so from every copy sold in the US.

Not sure if this is true, but i believe the mangaka's have ownership of their materials and not the publishing companies. Whereas, over in the US for example, this wouldn't be the case. Given the recent case about the tv writers who are on strike, they only get a few cents on each sales, but i think someone said that depending on how well it sells they can make a pretty large sum of from that few cents.

I don't mind paying if it isn't to much, like, over here in belgium the only way to accually get manga is on-line stores.
I pay about 12 us dollars for 1 volume(=8euro's), thats the price for most.
Don't buy any anime because it just costs way to much for a poor student like me bigrazz (between 25 and 70euro/dvd)

I own several manga series and I'll buy more in the future.
Ofcourse that doesn't stop me from downloading biggrin , my hard drive is filled with manga and anime.

I know what you mean.. There aren't mangas anywhere here in Belgium, only Death Note.. laugh

I checked the image, what about it? Is it so difficult to notice a possible mistake on the site? Oh, right, right. Manga is too expensive. A complete generalization over one item on a site. Right, right.

There are a few shops in Ghent, but they don't have much + 3 times the normal price.
You can find anime here and there, but to expensive for me.

Is manga and anime to expensive?
I really don't know, you'd have to see how much profit is being made by who and look at the accual cost to create it. Only then we'll get an idea if it's "to" expensive or not

manga is not too expensive...it's not cheap, but it's def. not too expensive. And it has nothing to do with the US publishers. It's more or less the same price in the western world (you can't count China and the rest as people there EARN less so it COSTS less (production and actual buying).

In France depending on the publisher, targeted audience (shounen, seinen, known/unknown artists) manga cost between 5-8€, same for Germany. And the manga for 5-6€ have worse quality than the usual American releases.

@that pic posted: did you notice that it's not amazon who's selling it but "galaxy-book"...? that pic does not say anything at all...PLUS if every volume of Berserk a 'cult manga' has been sold out already it CAN be quite expensive
(i.e.:the first german edition of Berserk costs more on ebay than it did when it was first sold by the publisher)
amazon link for volume 7

WTH? Doesn't Belgium use the french language? Well France gets way more manga out there than the US and they are also less expensive (US has like 9.99 per manga each + tax, some manga like Berserk will cost you 14.99 all in all)

Oh I thought so, cause I watched a belgium movie (Calvaire) and the actors were all speaking in french, so I thought that was the dominant language there.
