well..i don't have to worry about that...manga is not so popular here...for now

Manga is a tiny bit more expensive in the Philippines. 1200 php for Vagabond! T__T

O_O what? is that the whole series? i usually buy a volume for 100 php

eek Where's that? They're usually around 500-600 php, but Vagabond is twice that.

100 php is less than $2... that's freak'n cheap!

I just bought a tankouban of Trigun for $0.20CAD at my library today =/ But I guess usually they would be selling for $10~25 at bookstores, although I can buy an entire series of maybe 20+ books for $30~50 in Taiwan or Japan... just need to be able to read Asian languages.

Its not too expensive, even if it was a bit cheaper you would still think it's too expensive. Though if you meant by buying something that was not worth the amount you payed (like bad publishers, bad quality and translations, crappy editing etc.) then it would be understandable. If they were good publishers then you have to give them credit for doing a great job. Go on ebay or someplace to look for a bargain or wait till there is a manga/anime convention where you're at, if you have any that is, dont just sit there and complain about how expensive it is.
And look here, you are leeching tonnes of manga, just paying for a few vols wouldn't hurt. Just think about how much time and effort the mangaka put in creating a volume, and the money you spend on the manga is what they count on (probably, though i have to say it would be better to buy the raws). So get over it, if you think it's too expensive then dont buy it. Continue to leech free manga..>.>
Scanlating groups put a lot of effort into it, and does better then most publishing companies, i'd rather pay them.

Yes, mangaka's get little if anything of stuff that is printed outside Japan, which is why I don't buy them anymore. The other reason being I'm in Japan and can get the raws for cheap. biggrin

Sorry, were you serious?

$13 for a volume of manga is expensive?

Are you 11 years old with a weekly allowance of $5?

yup its expensive...you can't expect everyone to have the same allowance as you i'm already college and 500-900 php is the norm for weekly allowance...500... thats already a lot to us but to Americans its only $10

I have no allowance. I work for all of the money I have. I also dedicate nearly 10 hours / day (5 days a week- Monday to Friday) to school. Therefore, I cannot have a full time job. I do, however, have a job working with my dad on some work at his condos.

Trust me, $13 Canadian (It's probably cheaper now due to the Canadian Currency being so high these days--I haven't bought manga in a month now.) for a volume of manga is cheap.

But, of course, it's expensive if you go and buy 2-3 volumes a week. Yeah, I'll definitely agree. Manga isn't something you buy every day, or even every week unless you can really afford it.

Pricey, yes, but it is still
nice to own something valuable.

Is it really that valuable?

Most universities in the Philippines don't allow their students to work. Besides, $13 is a huge amount of money if you live there >.<

I'm not saying manga is expensive either, especially if you compare it to American comics, just that don't assume that everyone is in the same financial situation as you are.

I here a chapter is R$5,90 sometimes R$6,90, which is about $3 and $3,50 (US dollar), but R$6 is for Brasilian people like $6 is for US people. Not so expensive yet not so cheap.

hmm... i don't know if you guys will consider the prices here in singapore to be expensive.

singapore licensed comic book in chinese: $5.50, $6.50, $7.50
singapore licensed comic book in english: $8.50, $8.90, $9.90
comics imported from overseas: $6 and above...

all the prices here are in singapore dollars... personally, i think the english version is too expensive. as for chinese version, some people thinks that the paper quality is not that good compared to the taiwan chinese version. so many prefer to pay a bit more for the latter. smile

In my country(Indonesia), one volume of manga cost 12,000 rupiahs. It equals to less than 2 US Dollar. biggrin
Even children can buy them with their pocket money.

We pretty much all know the ninja arts of online manga. In this thread we're just talking about having and purchasing a physical copy (ie. a series you really liked and wanted to own.)
