I usually choose my mangas by genre or mangaka. It's hard to find a good site that lists genres correctly though. So usually I have friends recommend them to me. If the author happens to be one of my favoured mangakas, then it's a definite buy.

Quote from daed
i randomly find ones, sometimes from a genre search

earlier today i tried to d/l one series but i d/l'd a differrent called claymore
instead, its pretty interesting, good fight scenes too to

indeed claymore is pretty good. At first i thought it'd be a boring manga when i read the first chapter in shonen jump, but after a few more chapters it became more interesting and the art style became more acceptable until it's completely normal now. I'm up to ch.69 for the manga, it does a while to get released even in raws...

i guess i choose mangas by descriptions, since the little blur's great for figuring out what it's about.
i choose mangas now more by cover first, since it can be indicative of the style and genre. If i'm really searching for something to read, i'll go do a genre search and start going through them one by one to find something interesting to read.
Most of the time, the cover tells me enough about what i want to read or not.

Mostly by mangaka, but when this option is out then depend on the genre laugh
For shoujo/shounen/seinen/josei, I chose based on the popularity, because if I randomly picked any title it usually turned out to be a bad decision laugh
For shounen-ai/yaoi, I randomly pick any title eyes

I usually go by mangaka because by then I know whether I like the art or not eyes But sometimes I find new manga by availibility. I might happen to come across it on the same scanlator site as something I've read before, interesting summary, good art, and thus I download it. Or sometimes just by the art biggrin If I come across a manga with really stunning art (whether on Photobucket or someone's avatar on here), then I'll search long and hard for it, or however long it takes eyes

If it popular enough, i'm really interest to read it. It really waste if the manga isn't interesting after i buy it

Either two things mostly for me.
Description - does it sound interesting, and cover - does the art look good and interesting. Usually the art used for shoujo manga puts me right off, but i tend not to put shoujo releases out of my head, just not a high priority for me.

I guess a little bit of all the poll suggestions?
Art, manga-ka, genre, recommendations, etc
I purposely get choosey so slough through the countless options, such as ...
I get the licensed version if available.
I only download unlicensed versions
Avoid one-shots and one volume stories
Avoid manga titles that have been made into anime and that anime is licensed (don't mind imports, but the subs are often not understandable)
And of course how much $$ I have available!

Can't vote since more then one applies. Right now I'm both asking recs, reading reviews, reading descriptions, etc.

I put Randomly, because it was a hard choice. Most of the time I go for the anime and then look for the manga or it's the other way around.

All up to what it is, negima - I saw that way back at vol 1 c 1 but computer cashed lost all. Did not find it for a year or two. Did find this place till 2006.

I factor many things in when I choose manga. If it's scanslated/translated I go by description or a sample.
If I'm buying a raw tank....
-- Publisher
-- Art
-- Genre
-- Author
-- Description
In that order.

I usually choose by genre or description. But for one shots it is usually done randomly. Such as when I downloaded Silver Street Romance, it was out of pure randomness, and because it was on the same website I download something else from. I'm up to read any series though if someone says it is good.

Usually by genre and description. (I voted genre.) I know well that I tend to like shounens, action, adventure, that stuff. Unless friends recommend otherwise, I go for those.

If any part of the description interest's me, I will read it.

If there isn't a description, then, it'd probably have to depend on what kind of art it has. Usually if ya look at the artwork, or art style, you can guess what genre the manga falls in, and guess some of the basics about the storyline.

Regardless, I chose Description.
