If anyone who reads this has been following the discussion ONEMANGA CLOSING D;< then this post should come as nothing new.

It is clear that a great deal of the people on the net are bothered by the publishers, whether it is because they feel that "one manga" and other manga viewing websites are nothing terrible and should be left alone, or that publishers don't pay enough to the original creators. (A warning for some NSFW advertising attached to the article linked there.) That manga is overpriced, or not available to the public in countries where it is popular, or any variety of arguments that slip my mind at the moment. So in response to this, I offer this possible solution. Instead of not purchasing manga and just downloading scans and translations bring your concerns to the publishers.

We have a huge community here, and no one knows what the fans want better than the fans themselves. Write e-mails, letters and tell the publishers your complaints. Give them your reasons and your suggestions. Tell them what you want to see change!

http://www.viz.com/about/contact/

These are obviously not the only publishers, but the only ones I saw being mentioned repeatedly in the thread, feel free to post the contact info for others! Also feel free to brainstorm ideas for what to bring up to the publishers!

you know... thats nice and all but i dont think many of those complaining want to solve the problem but flame some steam. They dont quite care about a legal solution and just want to voice their opinion to other that think like them. Companies will try to make more money even if they have to stop caring from those they dont see as a market.

Anyway, if someone can link to some jap publishers and try to get from them some kind of solution...

I don't think manga is SO expensive, I mean, there's always sites where manga can be purchased for less, and most bookstores have coupons that could also reduce the price. I know netcomics has manga available for download at around $.25 a chapter. However, I (personally) like to buy manga to hold, there's nothing that replaces that feeling for me xD. Of course, I realize that many countries don't have a selection of manga and that's really sad sad But for those countries that do... I find it sad when a manga publishing business go out of business, I really like to buy manga - especially for series that are really worth it (especially manhwa). I wouldn't suggest that manga publishers go totally online in order to reduce the price, I really enjoy buying a nice shiny book to have in my hand, if i spend any more time on the computer my eyes are going to be permanently infused with the screen xD.

>:0 the only thing im iffed about when it comes to buying manga is the wait time it takes for one volume to be released! The release date isn't posted ANYWHERE for many series, and I've even contacted a company in the recent past asking if they had any plans to release the next volume of a certain manga series, and they didn't respond back... Then again, that was DelRey.

If manga publishers could put material online in addition to print, then that'd be super biggrin but it'd also be nice if they could speed up releases... I'm not 100% sad at onemanga closing down... part of me agrees that licensed mangas should be paid for, and i have a feeling that even though many scanlation groups post "support the author/manga by buying the manga", I doubt many people do just that... Aw, it's sad that onemanga closed though... xD that site was fast for me and pretty conveniant at times!

It doesn't really matter how many emails and letters we send, because scanlations are illegal. And since it's illegal, the publishers have a right to send C&D letters to the scanlators. I don't like it either, but it's the truth.

Besides, it's not like they're gonna get rid of all scanlators. Like people were saying in the OM thread, the music industry has tried to do the same things for about 10 years now and it hasn't swayed in their favor once.

If e-mails are sent, then we have to do it in a calm and orderly way. Also, the publishers are partly to blame for this since series that get popular when they're scantlated are usually never released outside of Asia. Take to-LOVE-ru or The World God Only Knows. Both great series and successful in Japan, but their success would skyrocket if it hit the US/UK.

i dont think anyone wants to really contact the publishers... like what aagcnet said, they just wanna vent here. and im pretty sure contacting them wouldn't solve much, it would just let the publishers know that we're angry and mad at them. xD

Actually the publishers are going to lose a lot of money by these demands. How will people know what to read now? Not to mention we are in an economic crisis (at least in the U.S.) people do not have the money to spend 12.99 per manga volume. Not to mention how are they going to stop libraries or people from simply reading the manga in stores? This is going to backfire big time.

I'm just annoyed that manga that will NEVER make it here overseas will never be able to be read by the masses. If publishers were smart they would keep online scan sites open simply so that they could see what is popular and then license it. Who knows what crap will be published when they can't tell what people like.

Like what xEnvyloverx said I would also having a manga in front of me instead of on the computer. However, the only thing is that I think that compare to scanlators, the translator done by publishing companies suck. I personally like scanlation translations much better.

I am also fond of paperback, but I think that most publishers thats serialize manga here do a good job. I mostly read from Viz. which does very good translations. What publishers are you talking about?
