Usually do both. But I always read the manga first before watching the anime. Unless... it's one of those crazy insaned volumed manga, like Bleach or InuYasha then I'll just watch the anime and then maybe read the manga depending on how much I enjoyed the anime.

I'd say anime first because its way more exciting...
Manga. I prefer the 'adapted from' rather than the 'adaption.'

Manga.
1 anime episode = 25-30 minutes.
1 manga volume = 30-40 minutes.
1 anime episode = 1 manga chapter.
1 manga volume = 4+ chapters.
calculate those equations, you get my answer
and yes, no filler in manga.

If I fancy the story, I'll do both. Usually I would manga first and watch the anime if it's released. Then I compare... but usually the manga wins anyway, lol.

1 anime episode doesnt always equal 1 chapter lol. anime usually take a little over 20 min if you skip the opening and the ending. and you only get fillers when you watch like bleach naruto. but I totally get what you mean.
Manga is faster, so most likely manga, but if I still like original anime and anime is usually better at doing light or visual novels.

if anime exists....i'd go for as far as it covers and then read the uncovered part of manga....like i did with hajime no ippo........i mean its much better to see action anime than read action manga....as for other examples ......in one piece..i find it difficult to follow the action in manga...but i dont have difficulty while reading action in bleach or naruto

usually i read the manga first and if i like it, i watch the anime. But in some cases i watch just the anime (e.g. Pandora Hearts, Nabari no Ou, Gravitation)
when an anime adaption of a manga i like is released, i watch the first episode and decide if i should watch it till the end (e.g. TWGOK) or if i should drop the anime (bakuman)
there are cases when the anime is way better than the manga (wedding peach)
but in the end, i prefer manga

Usually go for both, and I prefer to read the manga first, but if the anime is complete and the manga has very few chapters scanlated, I'm gonna go straight for the anime, especially if the the last released chapter was over a year ago or something.
But I would prefer to read the manga first.
