I noticed lately that alot of Korean Webtoons titles are being changed to romanization. Even ones with Official titles. Or titles that already have an english name to it even though its not licensed.

I think is unnecessary as alot of people don't like romanization titles as its hard to remember, search or are too long, even Official titles everyone knows it by are being changed.

I just want see what yall think about this because alot of Korean authors want their series to be known for its official name & are uncomfortable with other interpretations of their series

Plus Korean romanization isn't common & less used as Japanese romanization, it best to not use Korean romanization in my opinion since the majority of people do not use it

Anyway what are yall thoughts? 🤨

Oh also want add, that this site is kinda like an updating site, so it should have updated info on series so others can know about so...

I have to agree, why change a title that we can read and remember to a title that just doesn't make any sense? and on top of that I've already encountered an odd demerit. i have a webtoon on my list called "When the Villainess Loves" that is now called "Angnyeoga Saranghal Ttae". This new title when searched on google did not come up this series but something else entirely.

Even google had no idea what it was looking for.

I noticed this too when I was going through my reading list wondering what a webtoon called "Naleul Jabameogji Malajwo" was doing on my list when it was previously called "Please Don't Eat Me".

Who has editing privilege for titles? I'm in the Updaters user group and don't see an option to change the title of series so it must be a higher-ranking user group.

I'm not too bothered by this since I have a userscript that displays cover art which easily reminds me what series it is, but I would like to know who's doing this and for what reason, if just out of pure curiosity.

Agree. Korean romanization (and maybe romanization of languages other than Jp) should be listed at associated names if there's already suitable English name for it. Normally it's more difficult to read and remember than Jp romanization.

Users could request change when they want to edit the name of the series or the author, etc. Recently I sent a request to change the author name due to wrong romanization. The option could be seen at user cp or I just click "edit" (next to the author's name) and type anything I would like to change/update about the authors and their series, etc.

I support the cause to revert these changes.

Yes I want know who thinks they have the editing privilege, I requested so many times and its completely ignored, I give reasons why it shouldn't be changed but still they refuse.

And even if it does it change in a few days later its back to the Korean romanization.

And they're also doing this to Japanese series that already have an official title, even when it given an english title to it even tho its not licensed as well but im not to bothered with that since Japanese romanization is easier but I thinks it's ridiculous whoever doing to make it harder for searching

Even if they ignore im still going to request change no matter what, im determine to have the titles the correct way for easier searching because even if there's Associated names people will not know which one is the official title

Given that the Korean script was designed to be easy to teach to illiterates, romanizing it is a waste of time anyway. If one's Korean ability is too low to use Hangul, you certainly won't have the extensive vocabulary to make titles readable, and should instead use translated titles. This is a cosmically bad move with no given justification.

To whoever's doing this: This is an extreme disservice to the authors. Nobody wants their comic's name to be merely partially translated. You must realize that a romanized Korean title is not readable to Koreans or Korean students. If you have any respect for anybody involved, these changes must be reverted.

Yes I completely agree, I wonder what we can do to stop this since its completely disrespectful.

Who can we bring this up to? I'm still quite new to the site so I have no idea which admin I can message or even how to

I would like to know why/who as well. I definitely don’t get the reason why.

So far after making this forum the request I have sent in have had the titles changed so all we can do now is just request it & hope the official titles are put back

So many have been changed i can't keep up trying change them back, I think ill write down the titles & if they been changed back I'll cross them out but still got keep an eye out since whoever doing this is changing them back to romanization after a few of the title being changed back to official

where do we submit requests to revert?
It's understandable for Japanese romanizations and Chinese pinyin because they only have one system.
But Korean has multiple systems, and I, even (or rather, especially) as a Korean, find these romanizations to look like keyboard mashing.

As a long time patron of MU, I protest these changes.

This isn't a fix, but for those of you who notice the titles changing in your lists, you can set the title to one that you specify by clicking the Add Series button on the list page itself. Just make sure the title you enter is one of the associated names.

This won't change the names on the Releases page though as the names there are whatever the group chooses to release the chapter under.

Go to User CP then under control panel click "Request Change"
Then type "Request title change to " then add the link to the series you want change
