If I like it, I may join the ranks. Or I might already be there, and am unfamilliar with the abbreviation. So, once again, what's DA? confused

Ah. I'm a fan, but not really into it. They have some very nice arts over there, though.

Edit - I might join it if I ever learn the intricacies of Photoshop, though smile

That's contradictory, as the word 'fan' in modern usage stems feom the word 'fanatic'.

What's deviantart?

I'm not really a 'DA-addict' but I do enjoy browsing for fanarts that I like from the site. I prefer Pixiv.net over DA though. :S

I log into my DA everyday but I hardly upload things. If I'm drawing, I'm drawing for my projects, not random fanarts, and that's the only thing that'll get some sort of attention these days. I don't have the time. Maybe in the summer, but for now, I just clean out the messages I get and comment and fav here and there on random little things.

I'm on my like, the 7th year on my account. The fun of DA has faded over the years.

I have an account, but I don't regularly upload my art. I only visit the site once in a while. Then again, it's not like I have much time nowadays. :x

Edit~ Oh, and at first, I thought you were talking about D-Addicts... >_>

.... >< I thought you were referring to Dragon Age. I was about to proudly state that yes, I indeed am an addict. Alas, you are only referring to devinant-art. Sigh.

Ah, but that's the point, isn't it? While the 'fan' stems form 'fanatic', it's core meaning is completely different.
From Merriam-Webster online dictionary -

Quote
fan
noun
1
: an enthusiastic devotee (as of a sport or a performing art) usually as a spectator
2
: an ardent admirer or enthusiast (as of a celebrity or a pursuit) <science-fiction fans>

and

Quote
fa·nat·ic

: marked by excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion <they're fanatic about politics>

BTW, the first known use of fan was not in modern times - it was in 1682!

Honestly, so many words have roots so wierd and different form their common meaning, it's funny!

You basically made his case.

You can't be a fan if you are not into it. That's the contradiction.

This.

Also i before e doesn't apply to weird. The neighbours are lying to you.

...That was such a bad joke.

Edit: Looking back, I saw you did this with another word and have concluded 'tis a typo. At any rate, the definitions for 'fan' and 'fanatic' are not horribly different.

Anyways, what's deviantart?
