I'm really bored guys. Need to escape a little and figured the best way to do so is to read some manga... trouble is, I can't seem to find any to get into. Anyone wanna give me some recommendations? Take a look at my list - it's not really up to date cause I'm too lazy to add every manga I've read but it should give you a good idea of what I generally read (alot of shounen, good bit of seinen, a little of the funnier shoujo, basically no josei).

Things that I are deal breakers for me in a manga: Whiny/weak protagonists, overly angsty characters, characters that refuse to hurt anyone (although if they have enough redeeming features, I let it slide sometimes)

Things I like: GAR protagonists, comedy, unexpected twists, clear goal from the beginning with the plot moving steadily towards completion or failure of the goal (aka NOT Naruto), wackiness

Manga you would think that I might like, but for some reason don't: Naruto, Bitter Virgin, most of Clamp's stuff, Code:Breaker, Liar Game, Suzuka

Random info on my manga preferences: For some reason, I like Slice of Life but can never stick with it. I liked Yotsuba alot for example but it took me like a year to catch up to the latest scans and it usually takes me 2 days max. I have yet to finish a Clamp work even though I usually like their stuff in the beginning. Good art's pretty important to me but my idea of "good" is pretty relaxed. Im basically looking for consistency - I think Adachi's art is decent for example. Snoopycool is probably the scanlator that I trust most to scan good, lesser known manga. Crappy scans really ruin a manga for me. I can polish off a 300 chapter manga in a day given nothing to do.

King of Thorns sounds like it fits your request, there aren't any funny bits.
The Ravages of Time requires some background knowledge after around ch60 (aka you need to know what's already happened elsewhere), it's about the three kingdoms romance of China.
Double Arts no GAR protag, cuts abruptly but still recommended cuz it sounds oddly like it fits

Things you've probably read, if not, I recommend:
Hellsing
Yu Yu Hakusho
Bio-Meat: Nectar
Übel Blatt
FMA
Nurarihyon no Mago
Gintama
Battle Royale

Thanks for the recommendations. I have read most of those but I'll give King of Thorns and Ubel Blatt a try. Anyone else have any recommendations?
