Are these guys a 'legit' scanning group or are they a spinoff of the mangafox/mangahere shenanigans. Some of their releases have mangahere.com watermarks which gives more weight to the latter. Can anyone shed some light on this situation?

I'm 99.99999999% sure they are a group created by MF to scanlate things where they have difficulty just uploading what other scanlators produce (like btooom due to watermark). It also wouldn't be their first time and definitely not the first manga reader to do this either.

Ah, I was wondering why sometimes some of their releases didn't have credits pages. I thought maybe they were ripping them from somewhere.

I wish Dragon&Fly Scans would stop. Their translations are really bad.

And they work on things other groups are already doing.

I'm really happy to get updates on series that haven't had any activity for a long time, but it's no good if bad translations ruin the manga. I just can't read their scans. I wish they would take the time to translate properly or find a better translator because otherwise they are just wasting their time.

Between annoying watermarks and bad translations I'll take the watermarks (so long as they don't ruin the manga reading experience by being super big and obnoxious--I've temporarily stopped reading Love So Life because of the watermarks).

Yeah I was wondering about this too. The translations aren't very well done. And I thought it was weird that they would have watermarks for mangahere (which are even bigger than the one's for their group).

Uh, if you're talking about Japanzai's watermarks they aren't that bad, actually they're tiny from what I've seen lol. Have you seen Doko Demo Doa Manga's watermarks? Now that's what you call "super big and obnoxious."

Dragon and Fly scans is the worst. >_<

As a part of a scanlation group they stole a project from, I may have some bias, but still - stealing is wrong!

Please, nobody read their scans!

Maybe I got the series wrong. I just remember that there was a series that I read a chapter of recently where the watermark literally took up the whole page and couldn't get more than two pages into it.

I'm pretty sure it was Love so Life. Just look through chapter 30:

OMG! This fight between readers has become ridiculous. That watermark is just stooping fans from enjoying an actual manga...in this conditions there is a possibility other groups will consider to pick this project up and release readable scans.
Also, Doko Demo Doa Manga Scanlations can't be considered a scanlator group anymore. Besides the 3 joint projects that they have, their individual projects can't be read. They look more like previews for the chapters. And I know other groups are planing to pick up their works [the popular ones I mean].

Well, when simple requests aren't followed, everyone must suffer. It was a simple request of waiting a day or two (OMG!!!!) before posting releases on their site so scanlators get a little attention. You can't say scanlators are to blame, just look at this (bottom-left panel):
http://dragonflyscans.org/manga/cage_of_eden/102/2.html
Watermarks made for an online reader owned by NOEZ (MangaFox, MangaHere, etc.).
As far as taking series that have been watermarked, that'd be nearly impossible to do it to some groups. They'd simply focus all their attention towards that/those series (kinda what Japanzai did with Sun-Ken Rock) and catch up to Japanese releases.
I honestly don't understand why people think they have the right to complain about watermarks. God forbid if a small piece of unimportant art has something over it. Everything is RUINED!! If you don't like it, pay someone to translate it for you or, better yet, learn Japanese yourself.

BTW, Dragon&Fly Scans have terrible cleaners and sub-par translations. I'd rather wait months, or drop the series all together, than read something I could have translated better. laugh

I'm not against watermarks, I'm against huge watermarks that go all over the character's face or text. Basically, you can't read anything like that. I think that if you are destroying the reader's enjoyment with a huge watermark you have failed as a scanlator. Well, that's just my opinion. Because the whole idea of scanlation was to make mangas more accessible to non-japanese readers. But noways it seems to be anything else besides that. If things keep up like this I'm afraid the scanlation world will become more and more inaccessible to the fans. I'm not taking anyone's side here, I'm just saying that the fault is on both sides and scanaltors should know better. eyes

Two problems here:

1) If the real release has the same terrible watermark, no one will ever care about going to Batoto or the scanlator's site.
2) If the quality of the scan is a big enough problem, people will just stop reading it entirely.

If you're doing it just to spite people, then so be it, it's your choice to make. But if you're trying to drive people away from MangaFox, you're failing terribly.

I guess the main problem is that majority of the fans just don't care about quality, just quantity.
If Dragon & Fly scans were really made by MF and such, then it just depresses me (once again) to see that scanlations has become into something voluntary and for fans to making profits.
Oh how much less anger and hate there would be if all scanlators could just have their own online readers...
