Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, because it's definitely one of the lesser known shounen titles but is still amazing. Also, Chikyuu Kanrinin and Nekoten, since they are both not very well known, especially the latter.

I absolutely loved Dead End, but I can't really recommend it, because most people who read it don't like it. lol. Also I second The Demon Ororon and would like to add Kuruizaki no Hana. It's by the same mangaka. I'm quite a fan of hers. You either love or hate her art style, and I think it's very stylish and interesting.

Tokyo Crazy Paradise

A gender bender story line set in the future with yakuza. 😎 Knife fights, guns, chains, drugs, and the supernatural this story has a little bit of everything. 😀

My all time fave and one that I have re-read and still enjoyed. 😃

Lilim Kiss

It's short, and it's hardly a masterpiece of storytelling, but first off, I absolutely love Kawashita's art, and beyond that... I dunno. I just really liked this little series.

In fact, if I owned my own manga company(I mean, a la Viz or Tokyopop, not the Japanese dudes), this would be among the, if not the first title I went after.

Really great romance...I can't think of any way to describe it well. If you want to read a good romance try to dl couple of chapters and find out yourself if it's good 🙂
If you prefer anime there is an OAV to this series but it only introduces the story (just 1st vol). However it's really good, I cried a lot while watching it...

Second to that.

I really like Ashita no Yoichi. It is actually a pretty funny harem.

Immortal Rain
= This one is one of those barely-known ones, probably because it doesn't cater specifically to a certain audience, like your typical shoujo and shounen do. It's a mix of both with a little bit more, and if I had to choose genres, I'd classify it as... Drama/Sci-fi/Romance/Action/Adventure - with some comedy. It has great, likeable characters while at the same time being interesting and suspenseful (and don't forget the romance). The art isn't wishy-washy-bishieful, which is an alluring appeal to a lot of shoujo manga, but it's clean and absolutely stunning. To anyone who starts reading it and doesn't like it, it takes a couple volumes to get into, and of course, the awkward art in the first volume improves shockingly from the second volume onward. Volume three is where I couldn't let go.

Ummm... wow. _ I talked a lot.

Other recommendations would be...

Hotarubi no Mori E
The Scarlet Chair
Natsume Yuujinchou
=All three of the above are by the same author; Midorikawa Yuki. Though she writes shoujo, her female characters are amazingly well-written, strong-willed characters. The cardboard characters you see in a lot of shoujo are one of the things that pushed me away from that genre in the first place, so I idolize this mangaka. Her stories are generally supernatural/fantasy, which is a definite plus for me. Even though her art style is a little sketchy, it sets the personality of her manga, and the art is very beautiful, at times, and always unique. Her writing has moved me to tears more than once. I'm such a softie! For someone who wants to get the feel of her writing, I'd suggest reading Hotarubi no Mori E her oneshot collection.

Chrno Crusade
= Soo... this one is more popular, but mostly because of the anime, which is good, but doesn't even begin to do the manga justice. Chrno Crusade is definitely the best shounen manga out there. If, in fact, it classifies as shounen, since it has a complex storyline, developed characters, and only as many fights as are needed, without the endless chapter-consuming battles and over-the-top power-ups. I love that it is a complete story at eight volumes.

And then, of course, anything by mangaka Tsukuba Sakura is always adorable and awesome. She writes pretty good heroines, as well.

Umm... I could rant forever; there are really some wonderful series out there that get little attention, but I'd better stop now. @_@

A very fruitful topics to pick up good but lesser known mangas from but unfortunately I see only one person whose tastes are similar to mines and I have read all on that list....so, some of my additions are..( I presume ES is one of the well known ones)..these arent the greatest but very awesome

Kirai - If you ignore the artwork, some part may be cliched but the simple content is definitely something, in my own opinion only, puts the Oh-so-popular Akuma de Sourou to shame...

Clover is one of the really better Josei mangas out there. Best part, it doesnt concentrate solely on the main character but also the characters around her and makes you love them.

I love supernatural mangas, many would agree, I hope 😛 ,that Mushishi is one of the better ones but I want to mention Hyakki Yakoushou here. Its simple but in the obtuse art, there are secrets.

I dunno whether Shin Angyo Onshi is on everyone's lists, but this manga is what I call a legend. It does get dreary at times but the scale of this manga is so huge, I am surprised they limited it to an OVA but I think that still says something since this is actually a Manwha which made it to the anime screen.

I dunno if Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service is actually on everyone's list but it should be, if you are okay with some corpses n the likes. I find many mangas with different artist and author are actually pretty good.

I'm currently reading Flame of Recca, and I really like it. I don't think a lot of people have read it.

I'd say Flash Cat. It's very unknown to the Western world, being a Korean manhwa that's never been translated into English. It's very, VERY good for a soonjung/shoujo sort of series.
