Correct me if i am wrong, but isn't this the kind of problem that the new bayesian rating average is supposed to fix? Or did i totaly miss the point?
If an account gives 1 to all series it rates then 1 from that account should count as a rating of 5, similary if someone gives 10 to everything, then those ratings should also count as 5. Or is this not what the bayesian average is doing?

Yes, and no. Anything can affect the bayesian average, just not as much. Here, those 1s are invalid votes. The bayesian rating is for when there are many valid opinions by people honestly using the site well. Here, that's not the case.

...What?

I think you should look up what the Bayesian Average is.

I'm not even sure that type of system would fix things. It really cuts down on the people who haven't read a lot of manga. If you have a lot of newbies reading Naruto, that's gonna kill its ranking. Naruto critically rates higher than a 5, for sure.

They are though, as the accumulation of biased voting leads series to the top; but by seeking to cut out the "trolls" as you call them, you are inadvertantly giving these series an undeserved higher rating than is the case.

Anyways, if you want to fight against trolls... then troll right back. Give it a 10.

Undeserved? Look at Claymore's distribution. Mostly 9's and 10's, some 8's, but then there's a huge gap in ranking distribution and there's twenty 1's. Twenty people have valid reasons for rating the series a 1? Bullshit.

I don't think you understand the concept of rating something fairly. If someone's only read Naruto, you can't short them for giving it a 10. Assuming someone had terrible experiences with manga before, but then they get into Bleach and like it, well then it deserves a 10. But those mangas don't deserve 1's because they succeed, even from a minimalist standard, on a critical level.

Guess you're bitter because the manga you're working on is less popular than a leper. All things taken into consideration, Akazukin should be sitting around a 7-8 ranking. But I gave it a 10 because I really liked it. SORRY FOR TROLLING.
Wow, you really are an idiot.

If the amount of manga that one reads adds validity to his clearly biased rating, then all shounen series would currently be sitting at a nice fat 1 just from my votes alone. But fortunately enough, the vast majority of people who vote are people like you. Perhaps you should stop complaining because some twenty thousand people have opinions contrary to your own

I don't know why I'm getting so worked up over someone who is stupid enough to give stuff like Akazukin a 10. (That deserves a 3. Even from a minimalistic standpoint.)

By the way, this is a joke right? I'm just playing along. sad

Mod edit due to language

Ranking doesn't really matter, IMHO. Popular stuff will stay ranked higher, unless TONS of people make new accounts to downvote, which I doubt will happen.

OT: I loved akazukin. I gave it a 9.5

tl;dr: Angry words on a messageboard.

Temper, temper. Mind not using such language on these forums? I mean, I'd love to tear you a new one over the 'nets, but that's against the rules here. ;_;

If you're really that obsessed with me, feel free to PM me with your furious words. biggrin

For the only part of your statement that was not filled with internet rage, if you were able to competently defend why you'd give all shounen mangas a 1, that would be fine. Unfortunately for you, I can guarantee you haven't read all shonen mangas, and I can also guarantee that you would not get away with labelling them all as 1 in the arena of logic. Therefore, your argument fails.

Have a nice day. ^_____^

Yes, this is a problem, yes, it needs to be fixed. But there are tons of other ways to check popularity of series, for instance, the series stats, or the list stats, and reading comments. Combining them all together can give a good idea of how a series is. Purposely affecting what series rate on top of the ranking for rating is just a pissing contest by the people who have too much time on their hands. Yes, I will try to solve the problem. No, it won't be magically done tonight, or within a week for that matter. It's not an easy problem.

Please relax.
