BUT, my problem now is...where do I find the file that Mirc has downloaded?

The folder can be changed, in the settings. But for your immediate purposes, click the little folder icon with the magnifying glass in the toolbar at the top of mIRC.

Ah!! Found it!! THANK YOU!! You;re a great help!
I'll try getting used to this Mirc.. it sure gives me headaches today dead
I guess everyone have to get through this, hm, or prolly not? cool

Not a clue. I know what it is, just never really tried to learn. I suppose I should learn.

Can you do anything else with IRC other than chatting and download stuff? Because that's all I know.

Yeah I do. Some groups require that of you in order to have easier group discussions.

It was hard at first, but I get it now. I'm never on though, unless an admin for a group nags me about it. I don't download manga through there anymore either.

I swear I remember replying to this thread, but I guess not...

Anyhow, yeah I know how to use IRC. It took a while to fully get around to using it, but I found it well worth it, especially since a couple of companies went on a witch-hunt against manga hosting sites (both online reading or downloading) and my main sources became compromised, so-to-speak, especially for completed series. Not as convenient as a simple point and click for a download, but reliable nonetheless.

Agree...one of the reason I learn how to use IRC roll

I may add that some groups release first in IRC, so you will get latest release right away if you know how to get stuff from IRC. Not mention that some stuffs are available in IRC only...

Also, I consider that running fserv in my fav groups' channels is a way to show my appreciation to them.

Of course, it's a chatting network also lol...

Yeah. I was part of a scanlation group before so I had to. But the reason why I really started IRC was because I wasn't aware of the different ways of how to get manga by DDL. Even to the point that I actually saved every single image from this photobucket album of a particular manga (goong, first manga/manhwa ever). Makes me cringe everytime I remember that. So yeah, I found out about IRC and had real fun. I can download, fserve (used to fserve but stopped can't remember why), talk to people and I was once an op too (on some channels). I'm no IRC genius but I get by. biggrin

I... don't quite understand. It's like you're asking if VLC can do anything else than play video files/DVDs.
edit: bad comparison, again client side differences... IRC is a protocol, a way of doing it, there are different server programs and client programs

It is basically nothing more than its name; Internet Relay Chat. One or more servers running an IRC daemon creating a network which Relays bits of text over the Internet to others, creating a Chat.

On the other hand, what your IRC client can do is a different thing. Some have features that others don't. And mIRC has its own script language which has enabled users to create their own addons. SysReset and UPP are popular among scanlators since they have the file serving functionality, and other things... Other clients also have scripting capabilities, so if you know languages like perl and python and such you can modify some of the clients a bit.

Some IRC clients:
http://www.snak.com/ shareware - mac
http://colloquy.info/ free - mac
http://sourceforge.net/projects/xchataqua/ free - mac
http://www.mirc.com/ shareware - windows
http://irssi.org/ free - multiple
http://www.bitchx.com/ free - multiple
http://www.xchat.org/ shareware - multiple
http://www.silverex.org/ free - windows

A note about the last two, as they are both X-Chat (2).
There was some controversy about it, as X-Chat suddenly became shareware after being freeware, so I recommend the silverex.org version (XChat2). Read more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XChat#Shareware_controversy

Many Instant Messaging programs also support the IRC protocol. Like Trillian, Pidgin, Adium, etc...

Also, a few IRC daemons, or IRCd's... just to make a point, you don't need these to IRC normally as a user:
http://www.shadow-realm.org/ IrcHighway uses a version of this.
http://www.unrealircd.com/
http://www.inspircd.org/
For a bigger list comparing them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_IRC_daemons

Yes I know how, that's why I was able to download so many manga, anime and other things. Its faster than torrent plus you can get what you want directly from the groups that do have it.
It took me some time to get use to at first all I need to know is to differentiate a bot from a fserv(file server) and triggers. I use mIRC and I have chatZilla (good if you are using firefox as a browser)
I think its a really good tool for any anime and manga lover biggrin
