Why? Simple. More meat, less fur - also considered a delicacy in certain Asian countries.
I also assume you're referring to house dogs and cats, not their biological groups (which encompass more than one species).

I've owned both a cat and a dog and I can't imagine eating either kind! If I was raised in a different culture, maybe, but to me cats and dogs aren't food, they're friends.
