That really surprised me when I found out, but I think it's cool.

Still, every once and a while I wonder if he's like a male fujoshi or just really smart about how to make money. I think it's the first one. XD

Yeah, but it does always give me something to think about. I'm not picky when it comes to a mangaka's gender, as long as they can whip out a good story and artwork.

Sure....Manga-ka's gender really change my opinion of the manga.....I thought there's always a male who did the superb manga....but the true facts is female also can do better....that shock me really.....Actually I just cannot detect whether the one that did manga was male or female coz both did awesome manga....nice job to all of u...wish i can be like that...

Anyways, no, it doesn't change my opinion
on the manga one bit.

Maybe on the mangaka him/herself a bit, but it's
nothing that'll stop me from reading the manga or
make me think badly of the mangaka.

It mostly for private giggles, like when I find out a yaoi
author I like is actually male.

Don't know about male mangaka's drawing/writing of shojo,
but I do know that female mangaka can write some of the best shonen - Fullmetal Alchemist, Hitman Reborn!, Kekkaishi etc...

It just has to do with a person's creativity. Gender doesn't really play that much of a difference because most works in the biggest manga genres are all cliches anyway.

It would be relatively easy to come up with a cliched story, but it is not so easy to write a masterpiece and incorporate things that haven't been done before in your story.

While the gender of the person drawing doesn't bother me, I'll have to admit that I found it rather surprising when I learned that Kodomo no Jikan was drawn by a woman.
It makes sense as the story progresses and characters like Hōin & Shirai are fleshed out.

Nope, I don't even look at authors in most cases.

Sometimes I recognize the authors artstyle in his/her manga, from older mangas Ive read.

That alone can make me start to read a manga that I don't know anything about.

Suzuka and Kimi no Iru Machi

Aswell as Ichigo 100% And Ane Doki

are examples of things I've started to read because of the author.

I don't think knowing the gender changes my opinion of a series, but sometimes finding out my assumptions were wrong makes my opinion make more sense to me. For example, when I found out that the mangaka of Fullmetal Alchemist and Katekyou Hitman Reborn! were both women, and not men as I'd assumed, I understood why I liked these series so much more than Bleach, for example. *Broad Sexist Generalization Alert* I think that women are more interested in writing about relationships than men, and that comes through in these series, where Bleach (written by a man) seems more about competition.

Doesn't matter because we are all humans and everyone has a different perspective on life which affects the works they create.

I usually don't bother about the gender of the artist at all. I'm originally from Japan, so I can tell you with absolute certainty that there are some male-shoujo artists and female-shounen artists that will certainly make you wonder . You won't even be able to pick up on the subtle, gender-related nuances that most people usually expect in their works once you read them; albeit most of them are not nearly as popular as people like Arakawa Hiromu or Kishimoto Masashi and the like.

I would be more surprised if a female mangaka ever makes a violent seinen (like Berserk or something similar). I've seen tons of female mangakas with shounen series, so yeah.
