has anyone seen the movie Modern Warriors? its a documentary about marshal arts, in that movie most of them say that their style in marshal arts would not compete with a good street fighter, 1 punch is all that is needed for the other guy to get dissorientated (is that a word confused ) and that the practised kicks day and night are mostly for show. even jet li says so.. i dont think a marshal artist would Defend himself succesfully and win against a UFC or a Pride fighter if it came down to it. Strenght and weight is more important then being able to flip a guy at practice that is expecting to get whats coming.. i have yet to see a guy win a fight with self defense... watch that movie, its very interesting

Meh

Black Belt Karate

I'd rather pick up a pole I found from the ground to win a fight. A form of self defense is not suppose to be a respectable win. The point is to win, in any means necessary to protect yourself.

Heck, if you try to grapple someone as to protect yourself, your opening yourself for a punch, kick to the groin, gouging your eyes.

The point is clearly to win, and to win only.

Submissions are the easiest way to beat someone. Once you get a nice hold, you can have your way with anyone. You just need to figure out how to get someone in a good hold.

I have my ways, and their pretty easy to pull off if your limber. Anyone can beat anyone with preperation.

submissions usually require alot of work, locks, and throws how ever is a different story much more effective and gives you a bigger ego once you pull them off

Oh, I tried that! Aparently if you cut yourself it hurts, and your blood doesn't turn into a weapon. Damnit, why do mangas lie to me!?

knowing how to guard urself is most important. we talking about self defense here.
submission would leave u so vulnerable to a hit unless ur built like a brick wall
its not recommended. even a puny guy who can block and take blows
can take down goliath.

if ur in a situation where fighting is necessary its not always the answer, best choice is to run. we talkin life or death here. cuz the guy u fight is gonna come lookin for u sooner or later with friends. so if its rele such a big deal that u gotta settle the score wit da dude then might as well just shoot him or something.

When I mean "You can have your way with anyone", I meant you could either throw, beat, and/or humiliate this someone all that you want. It takes a good understanding of the limits of human tendons and bones in order to create ways in which someone can't escape.

Edit: I guess I should say grappling, cause grappling is a form of submissions.

i am in aikido almost like hapkido but no kicking or punching. a very passive style of fighting just the way i like it. I have always been good at moving out of the way i can just see the punch coming or the kick. so i just take them off balance and slam them on the ground usually knocks them out or pushes the breath out. If you really had to any of the moves taught could be turned in to offensive with a single flip of the wrist and really do damage. Oh we also do jo and bokken training as transition between hand techniques and if someone has a weapon. i always get him by the sensei i swear he likes it he always say its a sword fight your gonna get cut and then laughs as his wife yells at him. great times

Haha, I've gotten into so many fights at school that I was practically taught by my peers.

Monkey Bump~! (=3*-*)==3

Yeah! O_O
Have been taking kickboxing for years. Though I often take breaks between seasons. It was suggested by my mother as a way to vent out my "frustration"...;;>.>

Only downside is that basically all guys were scared of me throughout high school after I showed some demonstrations of my 'skills' in a talent show. ;____;
