Well, I would really like to know it.

It was such a good manga to end it in that way. I don't agree with many people about the manga going downhill after vol 17 (when you all know what happened), but I don't understand why it suddenly ends in vol 23 leaving so many stories unresolved.

For instance, the old geezer vs Ogata rematch for the Honinbo title, the future of the Go's club guys, Kaga, the other insei (Nabe and Fukui over all, I mean, they totally disappeared from the story). The manga has a lot of characters but almost for noone there's a real ending, will Akira or Hikaru reach the Hand of God? Will Touya-sensei be able to play Sai again? Will Yashiro be recognized by his parents as a Pro?

I would've also liked some flashback about Shuusaku's life.

It just doesn't look an ending at all. sad

there are some specials going around, post-ending stuff.
I found the ending quite interesting, i mean, i wouldn't want it to drag to endless go battles. They just keep on their living.

Nooo!! The ending was really horrible. It was such a good manga. After all it didn't solve anything...

I have to agree with you 100%, I think it would have beengreat to have an answer to most of those questions, like a flash into the future 10 years from now and it shows you what lies at the end of each person's road. I've been also thinking that if the mangaka ever decides on making a hikaru no go 2 I would more then welcome it.

i hated it sad In fact, i pretty much wanted to quit reading it after Sai died, although the last match did draw me in because he was defending sai. disappointed he lost and couldnt defend sai and let that guy talk crap, never played touya's dad, and hikaru or touya (or his dad) never achieved the 'Hand of God.' makes me so angry D:< ABSOLUTELY nothing was solved. T__T

other things that got me irritated were they never explained: what happened to mitani, the glasses guy, and his childhood friend? does waya, isumi, and (ther other kid) ever become truly amazing like shindou and touya seem to be getting? did hikaru win against suyon?

in the last chapter, does hikaru or touya win? and what the hell were the words 'Can you hear my voice?' supposed to mean in chap 189! D:< I wanted to see sai revived, but they just ended it there then put in a flashback and an incomplete game! (last two chapters)

Whew... i ranted. in conclusion, i really hated the ending and it disappointed me deeply. none

Yes! You are so right. I felt like throwing the book against a wall when Sai disappeared. But still hoping I read on, cause maybe Sai would come back or something...
But couldn't they just let Hikaru win the game against Korea? Now that he has lost the whole game doesn't make sense anymore. sad
And those last words.. WTF?! Was that Sai or what? So weird. Stupid manga.
sad

And the whole idea of the manga failed when Sai disappeared.

yeah the ending was dissapointing..I heard a rumor that the artist put this to a halt and went to work on a different series. umm if it dosent make sense i'm sorry..if it was true it would explain why it suddenly seemed kind of rush and the ending was dissapointing

I actually liked the ending a lot. If Hikaru had won, it would have been just like any other cliche shounen manga where the protagonist always wins. We saw Hikaru growing beyond Sai, and I think that's enough. I mean, he's still a kid and hasn't been playing Go for very long. The rivalry between Hikaru and his competitors continues, and life goes on with people around the world enjoying the game of Go. Wasn't that the point of the manga? The playing of the game was always more important than winning. This ending makes me feel more satisfied than seeing Hikaru holding up some gold medal or trophy. I think it's brilliant that the outcome of the last game is not shown. You already kind of know in your heart that both of them will achieve greatness one day, so it doesn't matter who wins that day. Lose the battle, win the war.

I disliked the ending at first but the more I thought about it, the more I grew to appreciate it. I really liked Sai and his final death still remains one of the saddest things I've seen in manga. After re-reading the manga later though, it became obvious that he had taught Hikaru everything he could and Hikaru needed to develop further on his own.

If the mangaka had tried to tie up every loose end I think the manga would have become draggy. In fact, the way the manga ended, with all the characters fully fleshed and with their development clearly shown but their futures wide open, plays really well with one of the central themes about Go: Go has endless possibilities.
