I read a manga I read a long time ago and I'm trying to remember the name of it. I remember that the main character gained the ability to transform into some sort of monster. The part the I remember most is when at one point while in monster form he dies, and his whole body kinda melted I think. He later regenerated and came back to life because of the thing that allowed him to become a monster. The whole experience freaked him out because he wasn't sure if he was his original self or if he was just a clone, because he figured out that the thing that let him become a monster recreated him using his dna or something like that. Other details I think I remember is that there was another character with the same ability as the main character, and the main character's monster form was white I think, can't remember for sure. Oh and there was a time skip at some point where the main character and the other person who could transform were believed to be dead for good. That's all I remember, thanks for any help finding this manga again.

It reminds me of Guyver. At one point the MC is left for dead but he regenerates from a few cells left (a la freezer from DBZ), it starts the time skip. IIRC the MC is gold/white when transformed and at some point he allies with some guy who can transform too. All in all it might fit what you want.
