yeah
we just need a starting point, not the bare minimum, but a good motor that will get us moving, purely so we can work out what we need as a base point then work up. im not saying we use a basic motor in the prototype, only so we have something to work with. open for suggestions!

it says there i the goldenmotor site that"The pancake motors can be widely used as the driving hub on electric bicycles, scooters, tricycles, battery powered vehicles and industrial motion solutions"it means its strong enough, and about le wheel motor its very hard to contact him!!!
and looks like he doesn't want to cooperate with us sad
Pancake motors of a large enough size can be used to power bikes. Shrinking them down to the size of a skate wheel will make a big difference.

It begs the question, if such powerful motors existed, why have companies & inventors produced products such as "ishoes" and "motosk8" when they could have made a much better product using these pancake motors? Surely they would have looked at all their options before spending thousands of dollars to sell an inferior product?

do we have to shrink itconfused
the motor on the golden motor so............it doesn't fit?? confused

well thats a good question, the smallest motor they got is 12cm(just under 5") in diameter, the problem is it's not very strong or fast. the next step up is about 6" in diameter (which is a little to big). Even if we use the dual motor idea i explained, the top speed would still be the same. Does anyone know how fast a 5" wheel is going in mph if its doing 1600rpm? I just did the math and the top speed of that motor is only 24mph, since we can already skate that fast, it's kinda pointless. Our only option now is the next step up. But since it won't fit, keep looking online. If you find anything, post the link here. Best searches to try so far have been hub motors, e-bikes, in-wheel motors.

the technology is good and it says it can easily be scaled up to deliver more speed, so it's perfect. Good find mcblaise. I'll do some research on it tomorrow and see how much they cost, I'm assuming it won't be cheap. Don't quit looking just yet though, it's always good to have lots of options, if ur not finding anything, u can try searching brushless motors as well.

These are similar to the motors i run in rc drifting, the motor ive got in my main car in a 5700kv brushless motor, only prob is im not sure what the power to weight ratio is. they might have enough torque to get us moving if we have 1 per wheel.

what do you mean, if anything the forum is more active now than it has been in a while, but it's true that we aren't moving forward at a good pace. People need to stop talking about it and act, that doesn't mean stop looking for motors, but it would be a good idea to start the project soon. If we can organize a group to start working on it that would be great, I'll help anyway i can. My e-mail is bonfield_beaver@hotmail.com plz ad me if u wanna get started on this. Now ikki-san was saying that he has a friend who is willing to start on some blueprints, where do we stand on those? Also if your planning on doing this on your own at home, it's fine to start modifying a pair of skates to accomodate two wheels instead of four, just remember to leave room to ad battery packs, cables etc. The motors can be added later since they will be either in-wheel or mounted on the side of the wheel.

P.S. I contacted the company that makes the nano wheel motor that mcblaise posted the link for. If you don't remember it here is the link again.

It may take a while for them to get back to me if they even bother, especially since their motor is sold to large companies and i don't even have a small company. laugh

It might be dumb that haven't read through all 63 pages of posts, but has anyone tried to contact the makers of the Air Gear manga/anime to see if they actually have a schematic or just a general idea on how to make AT's possible?

And when i say the creators i mean the Japanese creators. Not the American companies. I would do it myself but i don't know one bit of Japanese. Well, that is just a thought from me.

Btw, I found an image of a cosplayer that has an almost exact replica of Ichi's AT's.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_AzTmWNfDVsA/RqiH1QxN-gI/AAAA AAAAAJw/rQz6DP6pirg/s320/sugoiairgear.jpg

I highly doubt he has it working like real AT's. They are probably just regular skates that were modified. But that would take care of the structure and design.

Also, If i can help in any way my email is th4tswutshes4id@gmail.com

I'm not very good with all the mechanical stuff but i can still try to help. Just call me if i can be of assistance. smile

Yeah i saw the same guy but unfortunately, the material he used to modify the wheel supports is aluminum which would probably buccle at high speeds, grinding or landing high jumps. Also the creators of the anime only used theory for the AT's, it was basically all what if's. like what if we had a powerful motor, and what if we had alot of cool technology. I doubt they put any serious thought into actually creating them. The only thing they got is that 3-d model that's on the anime, but that's no help since we'll just be modifying a regular pair of rollerblades anyway. Btw u don't have to read all 63 pages, just go back about 5-6 pages and read from there, that should be fine.

H1N1 is actually a mild form of the flu, if you've ever had the real flu, and u remember how much it sucked, the H1N1 isn't as bad. The only reason ppl r making a big deal out of it is because it is a rare form of the virus yet the outbreak is getting pretty big. It only actually killed a small percentage of the ppl who got infected.

Now back to the topic, that company in particular sells to companies that make luggage bags and stuff, so it's possible that they don't sell them for personal use at this point. If you wanted their motor you would probably have to buy a large amount of motors before they even think of making them for you. That doesn't mean other companies work that way, you can still buy from the goldenmotor site and other hobbyist providers.
