Trying to find some inspiration to make topics here from the shounen/seinen forum..

So do you hate shoujo manga?

My dislike for it is growing by the day little by little...

Hm, I don't see why I would hate an entire age/gender demographic and I can't even grasp why such a question is interesting. "Shoujo" merely categorizes a manga as a Japanese comic aimed towards girls - there's no genre and no content necessary tied to it.

I understand that someone dislikes popular shoujo stereotypes. And I also understand that women can reach a point where they get tired of 'typical shoujo'. I do so as well. But hating the entire thing by default just because it's marked as "girls stuff"? Nope.

Well, while there is a lot of generic stuff among shoujo, I think there are some really good ones that I won't stand not being able to read laugh

Actually I hate shoujo mangas... =(
Especially the Smut-shoujo genres..or the (School life+Romance+Comedy) or Reverse Harem type of Shoujo...They're stupid..and a f*cking waste of my Bandwidth!!

But surprisingly, when I checked my Public reading list..most of the mangas in my reading list are SHOUJO-DRAMA-ROMANCE.. and I was like " O_____o"??

I guess there are good Romance-Slice of life-Josei type shoujos out there. And frankly, I am very picky on the mangas I read.. none

In general, yes.
Too much cliche going on...
But I do have some that I like a lot.

Edit: Basically, I don't mind.

I hate it, yes. I have not read one that is even mildly interesting. I know shoujo is a demographic, and it has many genres, but I can't really tell one series apart from another.

I wouldn't say I hate shoujo, just that the stories have zero appeal to me, most of the common character archetypes annoy me and I have a low tolerance for the typical shoujo art style.

I'm perfectly willing to read a shoujo when it appeals to me (so far that has meant it's shoujo yuri).

I would agree with you but I still love the ones I love so still read them though I research before I read and there are certain mangakas I avoid like a plague...

No I don't hate it. The art just makes me not want to read it.

Hate it?

How could I hate my favorite manga demographic?

Well, actually, I love it, I won't mind the cliches in it, even if there is lots of it. But it all comes down to preference.

Since there was no mild way of opposing,
I say I hate it.
I wish that all shōjo readers would move
to josei and all shōnen readers to seinen.

I use to, until I realized not all shoujo's follow the same annoying pattern (That and I usually HATE love triangles xP) . It just takes some digging to find something really good and enjoyable. That and I learned that if it has a huge cult following, chances are, I wont like it. laugh
