My parents are muslims, but they're really not that devout. My auntgandmacousinsquirrels are traditional (they wear veils and stuff) but fortunately my mother raised me to simply be a good person (though she does believe in god herself, but for personal reasons that she doesn't push onto anyone).

I still have to take the mandatory religious studies at school (and i do wear the veil during the religious classes out of respect) but that's where my connection with religion (specifically my religion, Islam) stops. My mom did enroll me in religious courses when i was a wee child but i was too stupid and playful to care.

Now I'm slightly smarter, but i still don't care. >3

I don't really care for the notion of religion, since i haven't even fully comprehended the notion of 'existence' yet. Who can say what existence is or if it's real anyways? In that face of that question, what entity i believe in or what happens after death doesn't even matter. For all i know, my entire existence could be Clint Eastwood's dream or something. bigrazz

Not to mention growing up with a ridiculously lenient family like mine <3 i never found the need for an omnipresent being to believe in. Since i still have questions of existence, how the world was created doesn't matter. I believe that absolutely nobody else has the right to dictate my actions in life and I'm getting myself to accept the idea of mortality, meaning i accept that death is possibly final so I'd better do what i want now. That way, i'll be sure not to will away my life by telling myself that there's more to it after this and i can do what i want in the afterlife, be it if i end up in heaven, hell, absolute nothingness, limbo, as Master Stephen Fry's shoes or haunting people at ancient mansions. biggrin

I really don't think about or care for religion all that much, but what people want to believe; they are free to do so. As long as they don't kick up a fuss.

I would also like to add that, should this 'god-like' entity exist, it would be my mother, who can make me do things i really detest by simply saying 'Because i told you so, that's why.'. eyes True story.

Could you call existentialism as a religion? Because I'm pretty much an existentialist I think of my actions and their consequences and do the ones that give the biggest reward. Whilst some of my friends said that existentialist are either negative or emos, I fail to understand why, I'm a very happy and joyful person I just believe that I have control over my destiny and whatever happens to me... mostly.

Mormon here. I'm a convert so I'm the only mormon in my family but I think it's great. Oh yeah, I was an athiest most of my life but I was Christian when I was little because the rest of my family was. So this mormon thing is pretty new for me. Only have been one for about one year now. biggrin

if buddism is a religion you could call existentialism one too.both are views on life and how to handle it.but if you believe that you forge your own destiny not controlled by some higher power that's a pretty atheistic point of view.ever thought of that?

I am an atheist.
Every one in my immediate family is deïstic and my father's side of the family is roman catholic, mostly anyway.
I don't really mind people who believe in a god, but I absolutely hate organised religion and I think the people who follow this seriously are freakin retarded. (especially those odd religions, like scientology. do people like that even have a brain?)

Instead of wasting your time and money on some fictitious parent that isn't gonna do anything anyway, why not buy and read some philosophy books or take some classes.
Learn to think and form your own ideas of the universe, create your own personal religion.

The way I see it. If god exists, he likely has more important things to do than watch you masturbate or hear you whine or praise him.
He created the goddamn universe, your not that special!

Im an atheist
Was raised a christian by my mom, and believed in god and even prayed daily till i was about 15 years old.
After i actually had told my parents about me being a atheist, i once talked to my dad about religions/beliefs or something and learned he was a atheist too which i had had no idea of. smile
He is someone that dosnt even touch religious topics since it might hurt someones feelings/piss them off or something.

I'm a roman catholic who doesnt agree 100% with her church. I hate every preacher there because they are hypocrites so I never go to church unless I'm visiting someone else's. Also, I dont usually call myself roman catholic because well, I like the giant mesh of religions that fall under the term 'christian' a lot better. eyes

This is only partly on topic but I hate it when evangelicals and athiests put down other people's beliefs. I dont care if you have different beliefs from me, I'm not going to tell you your wrong and should think differently because beliefs are opinions and you are entitled to your own.

Because Evangelicals and Atheists are the only ones who criticize others beliefs. roll eyes

I don't care if God exist or not. I respect people who do believe, and people who don't. But i just don't really care about it, it doesn't mean anything in my live. I believe that in my language, they call people like me 'agnost' which, I believe, is Agnostic in English

I'm an atheist but I respect that other can have different opinions on the matter, whatever makes you happy =)

Though I guess. . . since someone talked about existentialism I guess could call myself a phenomenologist ( laugh ) since I don't believe science can explain everything anyway roll eyes

Maybe I'm alone on this one, but I never really could see buddhism as a religion.
If I had to classify it, I would put it in the row of philosphies. Like existentialism is. (it's not a religion guys, its philosophy. Which either way is always way better than any stupid religion.)

I was raised as roman catholic, but I'm an atheist myself. Some of my siblings are still religious, some are not, and we've had no arguments about this.
