The most popular guy somehow falls in love with the stupidest or least popular girl.

Argh! I totally hate the cliche involving this popular PERFECT bishounen male lead falling in love with the ordinary (nerdy?) girl... Heaps of people already mentioned this cliche though. It is too overused and is meant to make us be able to relate to the main female lead but I can't relate to it. It makes the manga seem seriously unrealistic and just some dream...

I really dislike it when the guy is a crybaby, it creeps me out.
It also creeps me out when the guy is supposedly "beautiful" but they make his eyelashes too long. Honestly, it makes them look creepy.
It's the WORST when the creepy cry baby guy has CREEPY gorgeous eyelashes.

Hmm, well I don't know about anyone else... but I HATE when the hottest/most popular guy in school who CONSTANTLY rejects each and every girl who likes him "just happens" to be attracted to the heroine.

Let's face it, most heroines aren't exactly portrayed as drop dead gorgeous or popular, quite the contrary actually! They're all NORMAL-ish and bland! Why would they catch his eye?!

I don't understand it!

Its even worse if the heroine shows no initial interest in him to begin with.

example: Maid Sama! And one other I forgot the title to, but dropped after the 1st chapter cuz of this...

I hope I'm not the only one =.=;

One good series that is the total opposite of this is Dengeki Daisy~ my all time fav. manga.

really? All the guy's I know have ridiculously LONG eyelashes and there constantly around me so I'm used to them lol. (btw most guy's tend to have longer eyelashes than girls, not sure why though)
I'm fine with crybaby men and such
but those obsessed fangirls and those stupidly naive/innocent heroine with 5 guys fawning over her bothers me. (bug-eyed art shoujo art bothers me too..)
oh, and girls who go to one guy then to another and to the dumped guy again pisses me off (just stick with one guy!) ex. Parfict Tic

You're definitely not the only one. I dropped Maid-Sama! for the same reason. bigrazz
Really I don't get how the -incredibely super shmexy yet intelligent guy that is all around perfect- is interested in a semi-normal girl that's supposed to be NOT attractive confused It really isn't that realistic

On a side-note Maid Sama!
Spoiler (highlight to view)
I heard that Usui -the main guy- picked up and abbandoned puppy (or was it kitten?) and that was supposed to show his sensetive type! I laghed my ass off when I heard that

i think that the bishie for some reason in love with ordinary girl is an empty illusion that is something we wish for. we know that it will never happen in our entire pitiful lives so we daydream in the form of manga. it is something we all with for, a bishie's love. every one except tsunderes would accept it whole heartedly. why do you think we read manga? to fill a forever empty gap in our sadly realistic life. shoujo chiches are important to our world, without them we would not have girls spacing out in class wishing for bishies all day long. we would not have mangakas drawing such perfect men because they are not needed. shoujo cliches fill a phycilogical space of needed love in our minds. you have a problem with that, you can always go to therapy insted of reading stupid impossible one shots.

Stupid impossible one shots are friendlier to wallets than therapy.

I'm a guy so can anyone explain to me why pretty boys are so interesting? I find "cool" and guy-ish (not overly macho testosterone saturated men with disgustingly huge muscles) guys more interesting than pretty boys.
(No, I'm not gay, in case anyone was wondering)

Are you talking about reality or manga?

In the abstract, I don't especially like "pretty boys" in either manga or reality. There are some real live "pretty boys" that I've become rather fascinated with, though, and in manga there are some characters I adore who happen to be "pretty boys" but that's not why I love them - I love the characters' personalities & pay a lot more attention to that than to how they're drawn.

Pretty is nice to look at, I guess, but I don't quite get it either. confused

This isn't specifically a shoujo cliche I suppose, but I *hate* it when Person A, who is basically a nice/good person, has a close Friend who is a great person, and a Crush who is a great person, but when Friend & Crush get together then suddenly Person A hates both of them and will do anything and everything to make them both miserable. dead

This has probably been said, but the "Oh I was out in the cold for a few minutes/Didn't wear a sweater in my house after a shower and now I've got a cold that leaves me bedridden with a fever so that someone has to come over to my house and take care of me and therefore further the romantic development of this story!" cliche.

I suppose that goes hand-in-hand with the fainting in the bathtub thing.

Off the top of my head:

1) A geek or an outcast catches the attention of the most popular guy in school. The girl stands her ground at the beginning, but as soon as she gets together with the boy her personality makes an 180 degrees turn; she's too whiny, clingy, dependent, useless... Oh, and of course they've had a miraculous beauty makeover too.

2) I'm all for a strong heroine but some take it waayyyy too far. They see the positives in EVERY damn THING and ready to face up to the rest of the world. Somehow that girl is the only one who stands out from the rest of the crowd and it so happens that the boy will fall in love with her because she is "different." Yes, of course, because it just so happens that the remaining 99.9% of the female population are complete clones of one another, so utterly below that one girl.

well leloMew pretty much said what I wanted to say

the most popular "oh-so-perfect" guy with the tragic past falls in love with the normal girl who happens to be the only girl who doesn't like the guy.
when they start "dating" the girl turns out to be just like everyone else...wasn't the girl supposed to be different from the psycho clone group so why the hell is she now acting and looking just like everyone else
The other thing is that the main girl is always so good damn helpless..can't she do anything on her own other than cry
and finally the bullying...god I hate nothing more than those curly haired bitches with fake nails acting touch and bullying the girl who can't even throw a single punch...that's like an instant reason to drop the manga..even thinking about that makes me want to go punch somebody..oh wait lol

Well guess I'm not the biggest fan of romance to begin with so I just don't understand why the prince always have to come and safe the girl..I'd rather have the girl save herself....but that wouldn't make much of a romance story now would it bigrazz

Most shoujo manga descriptions go like "So-so has never had a boyfriend in her entire life and she joins in a new high school, and suddenly whatever-kun asks her out/suddenly kisses her and tells her he is going to maker her his, who just happens to turn out to be the most popular guy in school. What is So-so going to do?" I swear to God, they must have a template like this, with <insert respective name please>.

Not disrespecting the hard work of shoujo scanlators and translators (Thanks for ur hard work), but every new project picked up, just has to run like this or is some variation of this. When there are some dropped projects, with original ideas or more creative at least and could do with some attention...
