90s Hands down! in terms of American television. That was when tv networks were in their prime and we got funny cartoons (doug, kablam!, daria etc.), cool teen live shows (clarissa explains it all, pete&pete, are you afraid of the dark). And more, i know basically nick shows ,but nick was amazing in the 90s, now it just a horrible channel with dull, stupid shows, i love the 90s.

Ok, fixed the poll for ya.
That was fast...thanks Calliber.
Alright, now there are two more choices for everybody to choose
Yea, you got me at the right time.
Back on topic:
Family Guy>South Park>The Simpsons.
South Park is funny, but it has to make fun of some sensitive topic in order to get some cheap laughs.

definitely the 90's. being a kid watching cartoons every saturday morning was hard since there were sooo many shows to pick from (i still remember the frog from WB11)....now I have to resort to watching online [or watching some crap that my sister makes me watch >.< i.e. Project Runway]. Cartoons nowadays have adult jokes but are targeted towards little kids, which makes no sense to me....what happened to sesame street Nick, Disney, and CN have totally changed their standards...and so have the other channels that used to show great stuff for kids/teens. -_-

I don't know anyone with a full functioning cerebrum that thinks Family Guy is better in any way shape or form than South Park.
This.
It actually seems like South Park hit family guy dead center in that episode making fun of it...
Atleast how the come up with things...
btw, i like 90's tv.

Different worlds I guess.
And hey, how many people with semi-functioning cerebrums do you know?
Anyways, 90's television all the way. At least cartoon-wise. Nickelodean used to be the jump-off, and Cartoon Network used to always have the classics. And Kids WB wasn't bad either...
I can't stomach alot of the cartoons they have out now. (Chowder and Flapjack are all I like)

^South Park is better than both The Simpsons and Family Guy.
And for as many good shows in the 90's, there were an equal amount of terrible ones. The only reason why they seem good right now is because hindsight is 20/20.

I don't view South Park as a comparable show to Family Guy and The Simpsons. I'm not saying it insultingly, I'm just saying that it's so different it really doesn't feel like it should be compared.

Yeah I know, i was watching grim and adventures of billy and mandy with my little cousin, which is a funny cartoon and there was this clip called Dracula de Bergerac and my little cousin asks me what kind of name is de Bergerac. I mean no little kid is going to know Cyrano de Bergerac. The standard and jokes of the 90s have changed.

We didn't have cable in the ninties... so it was mostly just VHS tapes of 80's shows for me. Every now and then, we'd have cable for like, a month, so I never really got hooked on many shows.

90's was good and all, and children's channels had some very great shows, but it's time has ended.
Now, we may have crappy children's channels and trashy dramas about rich people and their crappy life, and loads of reality TV, and what not. But we also have stupendous shows such as:
House M.D
SCRUBS
Burn Notice
Supernatural
Bones
CSI
Dexter
NCIS
Cold Case

I agree with you 100% on that, especially the kids' shows. It's amazing how parents bitch about all of the things that are bad for their children today, and yet when they have children's shows that have all of these double entendres hidden in it (That shouldn't get by parents in the 1st place), they stay on. Sure they had those before the 2000's shows, but it's too obvious now.

What surprises me is how quickly Nickelodeon, Disney, and Cartoon Network got so crappy. Hell, I only watched Nick because of Avatar & Ned's Declassified, and as soon as they ended, I bolted out. But this link seems to perfectly explain why certain networks start to suck as time goes on

I know how you feel I've had cable for about 3 months now, and it's been the longest I've ever had it yet. The only way I was able to see any of those shows on cable was by going to my grandma's house to watch SNICK. But just because everybody else is talking about cable shows doesn't mean it's limited to those shows. I'd like to hear some of those shows that you used to watch.

On a sheer superficial level, I enjoy it more.
Not because I think it's funny, but it's far more clever. The Simpsons used to be, but not so much anymore. Family Guy is very blunt, and very crass. It's the 'pull my finger' type of humor.

I wouldn't know. I was Barely alive in the 1990's. I only started watching TV around 1998 or so, when I turned 5/6, or, thats as far back as I can remember any shows, but I didn't really watch anything good. Just Sailor Moon and Pokemon, mostly.
So, as I stated before, I really can't comment on which is better.
I can state, however, that Pokemon was WAAY better in the 1990s then it is now. LIke, unbelievably so.

How about this?
Monty Python's Flying Circus/Upright Citizens Brigade/Mystery Science Theater 3000/Chappelle's Show>South Park>Family Guy>The Simpsons
As for this thread, the obvious choice for me is the 90's. And I can give you one show that could rival some of the best shows of the 2000's: The Adventures of Pete & Pete.
I have all of the episodes, and when I watch them, the show has way better character development, writing, and jokes that make you actually think than most of the shows that have come out since 2000. Now, this is just MY OPINION (Have to stress that point), but if you look at that show now, you can tell that Arrested Development, Veronica Mars, and 30 Rock are some shows that are similar to it. I think that it was one of the few shows in the 90's that was too good for it's time

Is this even something to ask? 90's hands down. Cartoon-side, they were better plotted averagely than now and with a bit morals for children now and then.
TV Shows-side, there were much much better show than now, with actually no realities (im talking of, im sure 1990~1997, Italy here) and less trash than now. Now its ALL trash-tv its a despairing situation.
