There's probably only a handful of people that I know in my school that reads manga. Besides that it's totally non-existent except for some old Dragon Ball Z and Yu-Gi-Oh comics in the back of the library.

Well technically I would only really call 5 people who are 'true' manga readers since the other odd 200 read either bleach or naruto, its having an annoying affect on me since people keep talking to me about bleach or naruto and when I change the topic to some other manga (namely GTO Death note or anything you can consider worthy of reputation) they just go, "Oh I don't read that".
The most annoying thing is that during my lunch break all of the seniors (people who are in Grade 11-12 or Year 12-13) are in a block of our own and there are 6 computers, and at least 4 computers are always being occupied by my underclassmen reading new updates of naruto or bleach on a friday afternoon.

And yes we have a manga section and its labeled as MFL (modern foreign language) meaning its for people studying Japanese, therefore I can't read them at all no

I tell my friends I love manga.

Their reply?

"what the fuck is manga?"

Nuff said really XD

There are some new people that I've met in my school at actually KNOW and read manga. I was like eek because it's the first time i've met someone who knows what i'm on about haha XD But the majority don't even know it exists.

Oh yeah, and i also remember the first time i mentioned the word "manga"

"mango? How can you read mango?" no silly silly people

cool? not really, for most of my schoolmates its just like your usual daily magazine, many girls who doesnt even know the meaning of "manga" read shoujos, they refers its as "comic" book, same for the most boy they read shounen manga and call it comic, nothing wrong though.

but if you asked them about anime, I guess most of them will say "cartoon is for kids" bigrazz

well that was 10 years ago.

Reading manga is not cool. Saying that it is cool would be like saying that playing football is cool which I at least wouldn't call it anyway.

I'd rather say that not hiding the fact that you like manga/anime is quite cool. I read manga often at school. At first people thought of it as strange because almost none reads it where I live (small town in Sweden). But after awhile people got used to it (at least my friends, though I only reads it in the classroom) so they didn't care anymore.

Reading manga is a hobby, the same goes for watching movies and such. Hiding the fact that you like manga/anime is just cowardich. Sure, you don't have to sit in the middle of a corridor where hundreds of people pass by you just to show that you read manga but hiding it from your friends and classmates is what I would call geeky.

You are who you are, you do what you do. Just ignore those who believe reading manga is a sin or whatever. If you are cool or not depends on how you act not on your hobbies.

Nope. Not really. Sometimes they don't even know what it is. And my school is like 13% asians. The only people that I know that like manga as much as I do are some nerdy guys. ^___^.

Some in my school does watch anime, since Naruto in Sweden is quite popular. Usually "fashioncore" girls that's watching Naruto. I know a few in my class that's reading manga/watching anime, and I really like to just talk about it. I'm not trying to hide my manga obsession, my closest friends know about it, and they don't really care. But I'm not the type that's walking around with a Fan T-shirt or somethin.

funny thing tho is that, here in sweden we hare serveral sites thats similar to facebook, like bilddagboken, wich is in english picturediary. I sometimes add my art, thats usually manga. Anyways A guy that ive known since first grade, and is now "The cool type" comes up to me and says: Damn youre skills in manga! I was really suprised that he actually went to my page and saw my art, and knew what it was! So I guess it's normal in my school. But its not a very "cool thing".

In high school, definitely not. I don't think anyone read it. College.. probably, just don't know of any personally.

Manga is pretty poplular at my school. everyone at least knows what it is. and its not just bleach and naruto and deathnote. we all have are different tastes. from shonen to yaoi. (yes there is actually a group of us who love yaoi...who wouldnt?)

maybe its because theres to many asians? i swear i know some awesome manga drawers that are like ....WOW eek and one of them is black. theres even a Japanese and Korean club. pretty awesome.

Hmm....NO!! Just getting that out there >_>; Pretty much nobody knows what manga is in my school and they enjoy laughing about some of the people they see standing in the manga aisle at Barnes and Noble. Its always awkward when that happens because you're one of the people they are potentially laughing about. Its pretty much a private thing. If you read manga good for you, but we don't want to hear about it you nerd. >_> That is the mentality... I only know of 2 other people who read Manga in the entire school....A few people know what it is but aren't interested.

Yeah right.

At my high school, and I assume in the University I currently attend... Manga is the devil. Right up there with DnD and reading.
