womanly things are degrading for men
For most guys..it is. biggrin

You guys might like this Madonna song (or at least the lyrics). It is basically saying how it is okay for a girl to act like a guy, but it is not okay for boys to behave like girls; because it is not okay to be a girl. So, in a way, homophobia might branch off of sexism..? Food for thought.

Madonna - What It Feels Like For A Girl

I agree about the sexism thing. (What it feels like for a girl popped into my head aswell.)

However, to say that Homophobia comes from sexism is simply not true. Lesbians experience just as much homophobia as gay men. So the concept that being a girl = bad, therefore being gay = bad doesn't work. By that logic masculine lesbians would be super popular because they act "like men", and that just isn't true in real life.

Lesbians experience just as much homophobia as gay guys? I'd say a degree less. Straight guys tend to think girl on girl is hot. So it's not like they fear or hate lesbians as often as they do for gays.

No. Straight guys often hate on gay guys more often, but straight GIRLS hate on Lesbians more often. So it all measures up.
Besides it's not as if all guys think that two girls together is hot and a lot of guys see lesbians as a threat. As a lesbian woman I can tell you that I've gotten so much shit from both guys and girls since I came out. I've literally been followed by men throwing things at me all the way to my doorstep, I've had rape threats from guys that want's to teach me that I'm not actucally a lesbian. My girlfriend was beaten up in the subway and I could go on forever with examples from my friends/girlfriends. Media focuses a lot more on gay men and lesbians are often ignored, but in real life lesbians get just as much shit as gay men. Rape threats from men are really common for example. A lot of men like girl/girl in their porn, but they don't like it when girls really don't want men at all.. =/

Oh, wow, hun... sounds like you have been through quite a lot. I'm really sorry to hear that. Have things gotten any better over time or is this sort of thing still happening?

You should move to Canada. Here, people love gays! Seriously, the worst I ever got was getting a bunch of crude comments in parenting class when I was in high school. And of course the whole mother-and-father-in-denial thing ( but what gay teen does not go through that? roll eyes ) Either way, the support is so much stronger than the fear at this point.

It's gotten a LOT better. =) I live in Norway, wich is actually one of the most gay-friendly countries I know. XD But I grew up in a lower/worker class area and went to a shcool that had a majority of immigrants from the middle-east. There are tons of nice people, but their views on homosexuality(espicially during junior high) tends to not be very accepting... =/ My parents were super-cool about it, though so that helped a lot.. <3

I read everything
I can love two buff guys doing it.
I can love a girly uke doing it with a girly seme
I can love a girly seme doing with a manly uke
I can love a girly uke doing with a manly seme
Etc...
It doesnt matter if it is real or not.
I think Mpreg is great bc is just different....and it also has to do how is done, for example I hate it the movie Junior....dont know why, maybe because it was more real than seeing draws LOL
Well for me a yaoi has to have an interesting plot with some smut, and Im happy....things like crossdressing, demons, mpreg, slaves and all that, just makes the plot more interesting.
Sometimes after reading several yaois, about ordinary life gets boring, and you need mangas that go the extra mile to be interesting.

Now real life

I disagree with the saying that lesbians have it easier than gays.
I live in Mexico, and both of them have it difficult.
But lesbians have it worst.
Since movies and tv shows (media) show more two guys being together than two girls being together.
Probably is you are lesbian you will lose your friends and even your family.

Nay for me, it just squicks me when I think about the semantics of it all. Honestly pregnancy in general kind of scares me, so I can't tell tell you how weird mpreg is for me. It's not the idea of a "man" in society giving birth (like the pregnant transmen we see today, is totally ok with me, as long as they are equipped for it, even an male-identifying intersex person is ok...) but the biology of a biological man giving birth just creeps me out.

First of all, where does the embryo go? The colon? The abdominal cavity...? (I read a pretty horrifying article about the possibility of a man successfully carrying a baby with a fertilized egg planted into his abdomen.) And second of all how do they get it out? Especially if its buried in his intestines? orz

It doesn't help that I've seen some pretty disturbing porno drawings of guys giving birth out of the peen and butt (it's really better if you don't ask... just, don't...). |:

I'm not trying to be close minded, but yeah, it just scares me, it's scared me ever since I got scarred by that Schwarzenegger movie as a kid. So... yeah, I appreciate warnings for it. It's not the end of the world if a story doesn't have one though.

it doesn't scare or gross me out, so I don't really think it needs warnings, but I don't particularly like it. I remember reading the summary for Sex Pistols and it mentioned male pregnancy. I thought that was a cool idea so I decided to read it. But once they actually got to the point where they showed a man get pregnant and have a kid I realized I wasn't into it. It just felt like I was reading a josei or shoujo story instead of yaoi. I read yaoi to see guys get together. I get bothered when one of the guys is soooo feminine that he can basically pass for a girl. I think that's what happens when you have male pregnancy. For me, it no longer feels like a story about a gay couple. Like someone else mentioned, if they want to make a story about a gay couple that has kids, make the kids adopted or from a previous relationship. Once you have a guy giving birth it no longer feels like yaoi to me
