I was answering a previous post <.<

Anyway the U.S. and Japan are both at fault during WWII [and all other wars >.<]...end of discussion

Japan, yes... US, no....
Japan started the war, US ended the war, simple as that...
japanese people seems to use "US bombing of hiroshima wa unreasonble" and that it was clearly unjustified....

some guy in this thread said there was more to pearl harbor, right? but than why didnt they bomb germany as they did to japan? simple, japan was f*cking with USA, and germany wasnt.... no need to go deeper into history, its common sense..... was it the right thing to do? yes... was it clearly justified? yes.... japan started the war, commited tyrany across most of asia, and the pearl harbor incident, obviously they were too dangerous, towards america? NO, for the entire world, basically to all human beings except japan... but the next reply ill get is probably not denying my statement, but setting another example what other countries did or somewhat..... arguments never end, because questions never get answered.... topic was, did japan commit the crime or not, i know what US did and how horrible it was but at least they admit everything....

Actually, I'm almost 100% certain we bombed Germany a hell of a lot more than we did Japan. minus the nukes of course. Germany just had a whole more to hit is all (rail lines, weapons plants, factories, bases, roads). Tokyo going down in flames was due to the massive collateral damage it took, most likely. That and Germany had literally tons of natural resources to rebuild the things we had bombed the hell out of from earlier raids. So the US hit the same spots multiple times in an attempt to stop them.

OMG, if you know how bad England, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Japan and other colonizer countries are to the countries they colonize, you will probably won't admit it if you are from the countries I mention above.

On the other hand, the countries that were colonized in the past, will probably write about terrible things that the colonizers did and probably with a pinch of exaggeration sometimes.

I bet England, Japan, etc won't write about what they did when they colonized other countrie, eh? laugh

@bluegreenangel: You are absolutely correct that Japan is wrong in textbook fact hiding. It is essential (and our utmost resposibility) to educate our future generations in spite of their (possible) apathy. And if we don't educate them who will? That is why history rewrites are a heinous crime; they are violating the right to truth in human beings.

---

HOWEVER! As far as US bombings on Japan go, that is incredibly cruel to say that Pearl Harbour justifies atomic warfare. I don't believe anyone truly has an absolute right to judge others on their actions for life is double-sided and there are always different perspectives. WWII technically ended when Germany surrendered; something that occured pre-bombing of Japan. While it is true Japan did not surrender at the time of Nazi downfall, I really, strongly disbelieve that it was necessary for the bomb to be dropped. Even for revenge or all that BS. mad

Makes me think about how we're living in Schnizel's "damocles-oriented" world bigrazz

I wish I can rewrite history. If possible, I wish atomic nuclear isn't use at the first place. Now, world becomes an insecure place for everyone because we know there are such things as that evil nuclear weapons sad

Can you justify US action for using nuclear weapon to stop the war?
I think it can be yes and no at the same time.
It's like asking about whether you should justify killing for self-defense or not.
True, you can kill people to protect yourself. But if you kill someone, no matter what the reason is, it is still wrong.

About rewriting history in the textbooks,
actually, a friend of mine, a Japanese, he knows about the cruelty that Japanese did in WW II. He actually talked about comfort women during WWII. Wow, what a big-hearted person he is. roll eyes

I disagree

The world is in balance and everyone is careful just because the other guy can NUKE you to dead... I mean think about this:

The world has no nukes, no one has a single nuke... every country that hates US would have a green light to a full scale invasion

I can already see it, Russia, China, a good part of South America, Africa attacking the US and the French prefer to smoke a cigar before send any help smile

Nukes are GOOD as long no one uses them eyes

As a veteran of the U.S. military I would like to give you a different perspective. The war with Germany was over by the time the nuke became available. I meant fully operational for combat use. It is quite conceivable that had the war progressed longer they too would have felt the wraith of the nuke. I do not share any pride that such a device was used on Japanese cities, but the military is just a big hammer. A hammer used to break things; and with Japan not surrendering at this time, they got hit with the biggest hammer we had. They broke and fully surrendered. War is not a peaceful affair and to protect your citizen's lives you do some god awful things to people. Hindsight is only 20/20 and although today it is an abhorrent idea to use the nuke, people back then had different moral and values beliefs.

My opinion is war its self is a crime, so many people forced to fight and kill and die. The sad thing is it is often needed, the human race is a violent one and much of the time violence can only be stopped with violence. I feel that anybody changeing history due to politics or religion or anything is very wrong, as a race we will never go anywhere if we don't learn from our mistakes. It saddens me that Japan is unwilling to admit its crimes and it lowers my opinion of them greatly. I would say its cowardly for them to try and sweep those events under the rug.

yeah...even if that is so, we could've used alternative methods to stop Japan. Bombing Japan twice isn't what i call justice.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't have stopped the japanese, i just implied that we shouldn't have used ATOMIC bombs on two of the holiest cities in Japan. Why couldn't we just destroy the soldiers and their weapons...why did we have to kill civilians? What if they did the same to us? (and no...Pearl Harbor doesn't count)

You really think they wouldn't have it they'd had the chance?

Quote from RyuNoKami
The usage of the Atomic bombs were more a show of force than a necessary means to an end. Americans at that time probably thought it would be better to completely dissipate any kind of hope left in the Japanese military and people.

Sigh. Okay, I'll explain this one more time. There were two options in dealing with Japan. The bomb, and a full-scale, joint invasion of mainland Japan. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki resulted in combined casualties of about 250,000 (as a generous estimate), and thousands more dead from radiation poisoning. An invasion of the Japanese mainland was projected to cost anywhere from a quarter of a million to a million American soldiers, and easily millions of Japanese lives, the majority of them civilians either conscripted or trained to resist using methods like strapping explosives to themselves and running under advancing tanks. It's pretty simple math if you ask me.

Now, with all of that said for the third or fourth time, am I implying that we were being considerate of the Japanese? Of course not. It just so happens that the bomb, which was the better option for us, was also far better for the Japanese than the only viable alternative.

Also, the thread is called "Japan Rewrites History?". If people want to extend the topic to revisionism in general, that's fine, but don't scold the rest of us for speaking on the topic of the thread.

Edits abound.

Jumped right in with out reading the thread title, sorry. Can't think of a society that doesn't rewrite their history to suit the needs of the current political or personal beliefs. Not one, so how can you chastise something every nation in the world does, including our own nation. I guess that means history is destined to repeat itself, and probably will.

The Star Wars happened in the 80's. Somehow Reaganomics beat Communism.

today they are trying to rewrite history in their textbooks, and also have said america was the one that massacred million people in hiroshima bombing during world war II, which everyone except japan knows it was a responding retaliation from pearl harbor....

We didn't massacre millions, but we massacred hundreds of thousands.

If you count the deaths from radiation poisoning or related illnesses that have occurred since... Then yes, we probably killed millions.

Was it in retaliation?

Yes, and it was also to show the world what could be done. I don't think the reality of it actually hit the American people or government until after it happened. But it did prevent any being used on people since.

Most people realize there would have been far heavier casualties on both sides if we continued the war and had to invade Japan. The war could have gone on for tens of years, seeing as an amphibious assault on the main islands would have been a painful thing. However, Japan would probably not have its independence right now if it happened as well.

I have a hard time believing they perceive events so terribly. Perhaps unfair. But War is War, and if any culture should relate to that - It's Japan.

actually they ALREADY DID... killed off like 50 millions directly and indirectly starting from korea to all the way to china than all the way to USA... pearl harbor DID kill civilians... there were civilians there and the army that just had their base there as well.... so there, theres my debate on japanese point of view....

THANK YOU !!!!!!!! SOMEBODY APPRECIATES MY THREAD QUESTIONING AND THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS FORUM !!!!
these people, are argueing towards me, that other nations have done it too and calling america, china, and korea hypocrits and all wen theyre not.... well except america if you include the indian slaughter along with african americans..... but they dont seem to stick to the topic.... is what japan did to korea and china and other asian countries true or not? and their rewriting of their history..... but since they are not denying the fact and just uses other country faults as example i guess it is true....

if you ever saw the movie "thank you for smoking", u actually learn that the best way of debating is not sticking to the subject, but rather having the proper skill for argueing and pointing out facts and finding loopholes.... in terms of that i guess japanese are the best in that, which they are the second most rich people in the world, they should be able to bribe to a limitless extent....

I'm not sure I understand where the hypocrisy arguments come from either.

Chivalry and War haven't been used synonymously since the 1600s.
