The ending magazine serialization is referring to the licensed North American serialization. They stopped publishing the chapters in the monthly magazine in North American and is only releasing it in volumes.

If you go to the wiki page on the publisher of Nana (Cookie), then you'll see it says it still continues serialization today in Japan smile

Does this mean that they wont make it into a literal novel instead of the usual illustration, how will that affect the scanlation other than the fact that the chapters might take longer?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "literal novel." But ending the serialization won't change much. The only difference is that North Americans will have to wait a couple of months for your fill of NANA, since the chapters come out in "batches" as volumes, instead of a chapter a month.

Oh and (I'm not sure where you live), but North American magazines like to replace older series with newer licensed series after a while. In this case, NANA was replaced by Honey and Clover. It's not that they drop the series or anything, but they only release it in volume format.

Regarding "scanlation"... I believe scanlations is editing and translating done by "fans." I hope that's what you mean... I don't think it's gonna affect the scanlations, since the ending magazine serialization is referring to the official licensed version of NANA in North America. Monthly magazine releases are still continuing in Japan (to the best of my knowledge), and I'm pretty sure some scanlation groups are working hard on releasing it.

I hope I answered your question >< Sorry for any repetitive facts, but I want to be as clear as possible smile

this manga is confusing that is why i love it.
Hachi first child is Nobu's I'm sure of it. All the little clues are from ch 21 to when she finds out she is 6wks pregnant(ch 26)

Spoiler (highlight to view)
look at the months, day and dates given in those 5 chapters.she only choose takumi because he took care and comfort her, unlike Nobu who only doubt her before she even said a word.

While things are still uncertain in Nana cos of the long hiatus, ill say im sure that Ren is Hachi's. Ive reread it A LOT OF TIMES and misunderstood it ALOT. I even asked for the raw, and a dictionary to help me clear things up, YEs im desperate esp after hearing the mangaka came out of the hospital.
FOR little ren, Satsuki called him ONII CHAN. In the english translation, it mentions just BROTHER, which made some speculate Yasu or Shin, since it seems theyre close. But in the raw, it says onii chan. Which literally meant big brother, as in someone RELATED TO YOU, if not by blood atleast legally.
And Future takumi and hachi having a convo on the phone, where Takumi mentioned refering to ren as THAT FELLOW to Hachi seemed impersonal, so for a while i thought hachi and lil ren aint close. But reading the raw, i saw a different perspective. Takumi used an informal form for ren while talking to hachi as if she is/was close to ren and hachi definitely being the guardian.

and reira saying how much she hates whom takumi treasures, but she cant hate little ren anymore esp coming from someone else.. they've gotten attached. ren never called her mother.

i dont know what happen to lil ren and hachi.. but something went wrong for him not wanting to go back. and i guess it has somethig to do with reira and his attachment to her and london. definitely gonna be a big problem when hachi fetches him back.

i have more to say but i guess you guys will still think of your reasons on why is why.

i dont think ai yazawa purposely tried to make us curious of who;'s child is who. she just stopped before anything else.

I just finished it a 2nd time, and am still pondering the flash forwards. I agree that something must have happened with lil Ren and Hachi. She mentions that he doesn't know how to be part of a happy family, and will have to do something about it. And you never see them together. But he looks so happy when he's playing guitar for Reira, the demon lord, it would probably be something with her. Poor Hachi, she always loses to Reira. Reira mentions wanted to destroy everything Takumi treasures it would make sense that she sets out to steal lil Ren's love.

As far as Takumi is concerned, in the flash forward with Naoki he says he is paying the price for sacrificing everything for work. But he looks sad at the end. I still don't know whether that was because of missing just Satsuki or Hachi as well. After reading this a 2nd time I came to understand that Takumi actually does love Hachi, even though it doesn't stop him from hurting her. At least he feels bad about it.
Then I went back to the flash forward where he comes home with an outfit for Satsuki.
The timeline for this one is my big question. Is that the true ending? Or is this some in between time before they find out about Nana. As much as I hate the way he treated her I still want them together. Like after being separated he decides to move back to Japan to be with her and clean up his act because he realizes how much he misses her. Baka Takumi!!!!

I really hope she finishes the manga, even if she gets someone else to help with the illustration.
