I'm no scanlator, but I know what you mean.
Are there any exceptions to the rules of scanlating with regards to picking titles, though? Just curious. I'm currently having difficulties in putting my thoughts into words concisely, haha.

I say let them do as they please. Scanlators share their translated projects for the populace to enjoy without charging anything. Hell, by now they could start charging and make a killing lol.
I suppose it is annoying when a weekly or monthly series takes unreasonably long to churn out. I don't contribute, so I don't really have any place to complain. However, they should consider dropping the series or doing a joint with another group. There is such a thing as being unfair to the readers. Again, I'll just sit back and wait... or forget about the series all together.

Most series will never get picked up again if they're dropped. If the readers are so anxious for faster releases, what they should do is at least apply to the group to help.

That's how I feel too, except I have multiple personalities. I often try to force myself to do projects I don't want to do, just cuz I want to do them. It's really confusing. :S

Unfair to the readers? Hahahaha, you make it sound like there's no way to read manga if nobody translates it.

Yeah. I mean I think groups/readers should respect other groups and not steal their projects, or ignore rules regarding online readers. But it's another beast entirely if they are not releasing the project at all.

I guess I'm just a different breed of scanlator, since I find the entire "claim" or "right" to scanlate a manga to be quite stupid. If you're stealing from someone else, it wasn't yours to begin with.

There is a special place in heaven for scanlation groups that specialize in wrapping up dropped series. For instance, A Willful Muse. I may not like all of the series that they choose but I still cheer everytime I see their releases.
