I don't mean to take it out on you so I'm sorry, but I get annoyed when people just ask for manga similar to another and thats it. Please, in the future be more considerate of those you're asking for help from.

gamaran is an action oriented shounen manga in a historical setting. It revolves around a young swordsman Gama who is requested to take part in a martial arts competition. Theres also some stuff about him representing 1 of 31 sons of a lord and if the son's representative wins then the son gets to succession rights or something along those lines.

I only summarized the manga because there are a large number of mangas that are in some way similar to this manga.

I would prefer something historical, but not 1,000,000 years old. I would love it if there was some "mystery" as in "how did they do that?" or "How could he be so strong/do that move/etc.". I don't mind having fantasy elements/supernatural in it. That's a plus but not too important.

Shin Angyo Onshi seinen

There are a lot manga who fit your description, these are just the first who came up to my mind.
