So Beautiful and Bittersweet.

My only near complaint being that the plot twists in some of the stories around the middle were a little easy (for me) to guess, otherwise excellent

It's definitely one of the best mangas out there. The main story (yuuki and futaba) was so great that toward the last volume, i couldn't really pay serious attention to the other stories since i just wanted to get to their story. Salad Days is a collection of one-shot mangas which, for some story, continues on for many volumes with other stories in between. However, to my surprise, that fact did not, in anyway, ruin the feeling of continuation of the story. Every story has its own plot. And it's very easy to relate to the characters as well. It's amazing to the extent where it is the second manga, after midori no hibi, that actually keeps me hooked to the point where i couldn't stop reading. I really tried to pause, but for some reason i just couldn't. Especially the last few volumes where yuuki and futaba's story really gets going. I definitely enjoyed this manga more, way more, than i expected.

To think that it was written over 10 years ago... Regardless, the art wasn't bad. Actually, it becomes gorgeous as you keep reading. I don't think the style was changed, but rather, i was so in to the story that the art just miraculously got better. It's a long manga, and i almost lost interest after the 5th volume, because i thought that since i didn't have a lot of time, i'd rather read something with a plot and character development. Well, i'm glad as heck that i didn't drop this. The plot was brilliant. The ending was also brilliantly satisfying, and it didn't feel like it's just the ending of the story, but rather both the ending of the story and the ending of the novel. It concluded everything. My only complain is that after i read this, my expectation toward the manga that i read next became higher so that i didn't enjoy the next manga as much as i should have.

Sometimes, something is much better when experienced it first hand. Give this a try. I seriously recommend this manga.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned in my thinking. Maybe I'm not right for typing the following comments. If you ever had a romantic heart as a man I would say read and learn. These things can happen. Love is the greatest mystery of all.

Short and Sweet

Unlike most romance manga, Salad Days isn't about one or two main characters, but instead a whole slew of them. Yuuki and Futaba's relationship is the most prominent, and their relationship just goes to show that romance can go a long way.

To me, the most enjoyable thing about this manga is the brevity of its stories. Inokuma Shinobu doesn't beat around the bush, he quickly develops characters to get to all the delightful (or heartbreaking) parts in 2-3 chapters.

However, I do have one qualm: way (emphasis on the way) too many guys and girls fall in love with each other at the same time, tell each other about his or her "crushes", and then regret not asking the other out regardless. It's a little cliché where the boy finds out that the girl he likes is secretly harboring a crush on him as well, only to be crushed because she gives up on it when she finds out he also has a crush... get what I'm saying? Yeah, but on the whole, this manga was definitely awesome!

It was a good manga. A lot of good stories and romance. The downside of this manga is the characters. The author's character design are flawed. Most of the characters shown looks the same and had no uniqueness. When a new story begins, I wonder at times if the characters shown before were them in the next chapter. Overall the stories were good but because every characters looked the same, it is a 8/10.

this is the best romance manga i ever read! it has a good story yet ended so beautifully~ no complaint about it! just perfect!
i even bought all volumes of the original licensed SALAD DAYS manga! this is one of my fave collection for romance manga, while ichigo 100% in the 2nd place.
i supposed to put SALAD DAYS and ichigo 100% in the same level, but ichigo 100%'s ending made me put SALAD DAYS in the 1st place !
the mangaka should make 'SALAD DAYS 2' rather than 'The School of Water Business'...
c'mon boys and girls, quickly go to the nearest bookstore, and buy the complete series! lol~

Much Like The Description

Just like the title supposedly implies; this is a very refreshing read. The stories were very heartwarming and touching. The plots were somewhat clichéd, but that's love for you. There were many original stories too though. It got a little confusing since it skips through various stories in a single volume, but regardless, it was great.

I especially enjoyed Futaba & Yuuki's story that spanned most of the entire work.
