Soma: The new revolutionary.
Horse Driver: The foreign force.
Rabbit: The dictator.
Rabbit Juice, Soda Pop: Represent for the power of the dictator. A form of deception by the dictator.
Mugiko: Innocent people does not know anything about political.
Mako: The next generation leader.
Mako's mother: The old leader.
Professor: The old revolutionary.
Jabberwocky Revolutionary Army: The country's army.
Replace characters in a respectively way and we have an interesting story about political. This is my summary:
The dictator lied to the leader of the country. After that, the dictator become the leader and with the power in his hand, he forced people to work for him. The old revolutionary tried to help, but failed and though he was not dead, he did not have any power left. The next generation leader of the country with the supply of the foreign force, lured the new revolutionary to the country. And the new revolutionary saw the misery of people in the country, so he decided to help and success. But he still dead in the end.
If you take some scene or detail in the manga out and analyze them, you will have some more interesting things, like:
Soma is an artist, some kind of intellectual. And the professor is an researcher. So Matsumoto Jiro want to say, revolutionaries always will be the intellectual.
Mugiko is the one took care both the professor and Soma. It is like the innocent people does not know about political will be one of the best support to the revolution.

This is actually really literary.

What a powerful LSD trip this is! A mixture of DRUNA in Japanese underground way and style of drawing, a little bit of Fear and Loath in Las Vegas with all that WHITE RABBIT stuff, and of course lots of sick creativity which engrosses you in a way that makes you disgusted and excited at the same time Really something!

This is probably one of the sickest things i've read. I won't go into details, read it if you want, but expect drugs and sex.
I don't know what's with Matsumoto and his fixation to insert sex in his stories, most of the time distasteful sex at that. His art isn't very impressive from my point of view, but i have to agree that the covers are awesome.
This is a disturbing story, that's all it is.

Awesome manga, told from the point of view of someone who is tripping and can't tell whats real, and everything takes a turn for the fantastic.

And the length is just good, there isn't much of a plot and it reflects the whole "haziness" of the trip when you look back at the story during the last chapter.

I think i didn't get the story. Can someone help me ?

I really like Matsumoto and i enjoyed reading this one. Altough this not like any other works he has done, the manga is short and very very "weird" . it looks mysterious to me I still don't know if this real. Is evrething happening in the head of soma ? It seems like the whole story is a bad trip of this guy...

I don't understand why but I think I liked it.

If you can steel yourself for the endless scenes of sex, drugs and delusions, there's actually a fairly interesting story waiting to be read. However, I do think that the psychedelic trip overdosed on the hallucinogens, though the interesting cast, setting and plot compensated for it.

And this is actually the only work by Matsumoto Jiro which I sorta enjoyed.

Edit: So after several years, and just after watching some pretty darn weird movies (Alejandro Jodorowsky, Matthew Barney) and finding myself not too weirded out by them, I was reminded of this manga and decided to give it another chance. And it was worth it! I think after looking at these weird works for a while, I've grown accustomed to all the nudity and trashy situations (-_- ; ) Also, now that the series have been completely scanlated, there is actually a plot after several chapters into it! It's also an interesting, pretty deep plot that makes sense after a while. Added in are a lot of magic and questions about destiny vs. free will. Having that said, however, I'm not too happy with the ending itself. I think the ending gave a clear resolution to the conflict, and it's satisfying, but I guess I'm not sure if I'm happy about how the main character lived his life after what he learned. Maybe I just found the ending a bit too sad, but then I don't think what he learned from his experience would necessarily lead to a happy ending.

Overall, I've grown to like this series, and it's worth reading if you can finally stomach the brutality and disturbing images. I have to admit that it's nowhere close to a philosophical masterpiece or whatever, but it is quite memorable and does leave you with something to ponder about afterward.

Old review:
This manga is very very very very sick, the sickest manga I've seen so far (and, in my opinion, even sicker than Matsumoto's other works). If you think Requiem for a Dream is scary and disturbing, you will get a heart attack if you read Tropical Citron. Personally, I got just too overwhelmed by the fact that the sex & drugs nightmare seems to be endless and got too mentally exhausted to keep reading. But kudos to Matsumoto for making awesomely.... wrong... artwork.
